DSS is working with a mother of 2, to help her to get food. This families Snap benefits ($567) were stolen from her EBT card, and since the federal government is no longer replacing stolen funds, it has left them in a bind. Mom does work, but does not receive child support from her children's father.
Mom currently has a broken ankle, and is unable to drive, making the situation even harder.

A single mother is suffering from postpartum depression and residing at the Rescue Mission. Her child is one month old, born June 6. The mother has no support as she grew up in foster care herself. This is her first child and the biological father is not involved. The Rescue Mission makes this new mother wake up and start chores by 445 am. The mother is suffering from lack of sleep as she has a newborn and is forced to leave the Mission every day by 9 am and not able to return until 3 pm. This forces the tired mother to take her infant often times to the library where she spends the entire day until she is able to return to the Mission. But even then, she is not allowed to access her bed until 7 pm. The mother does not use substances. Any support is helpful to this mother, but ideally would benefit most from a sponsor. Once the child is old enough, the mother would like to return back to work if she is able.

We have a family that is in need of some assistance for food. The family recently fell on hard times due to a custody issue and had some setbacks financially. They were able to get back on their feet and applied for SNAP benefits which will not be available for another couple of weeks. The family has utilized food banks and friends that they have in the area. They don't have any family in the area due to moving from another state and just needs a little extra help with food until their SNAP benefits arrive.

Single mother of 8 is currently needing help with underwear and socks for her children. Mother recently had a baby that has some medical issues and she is not working at the moment. Sizes are 16, 8 and 5 for the boys and girls size 6. She has minimal support system and could benefit from someone reaching out to her as well. She has also noticed a couple of roaches recently in her home and would like to get roach traps or spray.

Parents are currently homeless and working to find a place to stay. They have a one year old daughter. Both parents are trying to secure daycare and employment. DSS is working with the family and has referred them to housing, parents are donating plasma to stay at hotel but have run out of money. CarePortal also provided a stroller for the child but the stroller broke at the base and wheel. DSS is asking for a 200 gift card and stroller for the baby.

I am working with a mother and father, who have a young child- and are struggling with lack of financial resources to replace the door to their home. They currently do not have a front door- it is entirely broken, and just props up on the frame at night but is not at all attached. It is a safety hazard to the family to not have a door to their home, putting them at risk of harm. Any assistance that could be provided to this family to either obtain a new door, or help them put the door in would be greatly appreciated.

I am working with a single mother of 7 children, with minimal support and money- who is in need of child proofing door handles. Some door alarms have already been provided to her, but she could benefit from the door handles as well- to keep her young children inside at all times- as some of her children are very young.

Family is in need of 10,000 BTU window AC unit. Family's HVAC system is broken and is needing assistance with getting it fixed. Family has been using one window AC unit but needs another to get through the recent weather hitting 90 degrees heat.

Family is requesting a 10,000-12,000 BTU air condition window unit to cool his home. Family stated they would be okay for now but that when it gets into the 90 degrees that it is unbearable with so many people in the household.

The girl, who is 16 years old, has experienced frequent transitions between foster homes and relative placements throughout her life. We are actively supporting her in maintaining regular school attendance, as she faces challenges related to social anxiety and behavioral concerns. She is currently residing with a relative for a short period, tho she is planning to get custody and due to her recent mobility, she has limited clothing and underwear available. While she is making progress—attending summer school and preparing to begin a life skills program—she would greatly benefit from any assistance with clothing and personal items.
