The PAL (Preparation for Adult Living) Program in DFPS is planning an event for our foster youth (Ages 14-21) to attend the Science Museum this summer (07/29/2025). We plan to invite 15 youth that are interested in the science field (engineering, natural science, animal science, anthropology, physics, geology and more). Many of these youth will get to experience the science museum for the first time. We will be attending the science museum during the free Tuesday admissions.

We wanted to request assistance to purchase tickets to the Cockrell Butterfly Center exhibit that is not included in the free admission. The youth would get to walk through a living butterfly habitat, marvel at spectacular live and preserved specimens of some of the world’s largest and weirdest arthropods, and enjoy interactive games and quizzes. The youth would explore the fascinating world of insects and arthropods in a hands-on experience that brings science to life. Groups 10+ booked in advanced is $12 per ticket. The youth and PAL program would be really appreciative for any assistance. Thank you so much.

Parents have three children with autism ages 9, 8 and 7 . They are in need of food and gas cards. They moved into a home with help of non profit however the HVAC leaked and black mold formed that home had to be gutted and family had to move into hotel for the next two months. They are also in need of car registration and insurance but have had such difficulty with finances with home disaster unable to get the necessary coverage for auto. Mother is studying billing and coding and hopes to get job soon. Father is elderly with health issues.

Hello, I have a 16-year-old young lady who is in need of clothing items. This youth is growing rapidly and has outgrown all of her current clothes. We are asking for support to help sustain their well-being. We are grateful for whatever items you can provide.

This is a need for help with rent. The family has part of the rent but due to medical bills, cannot pay the amount. The adoptive Mom had experienced medical bills and prescription bills this month that caused her to use her rent money to meet those needs. She has a portion of her rent but is requesting assistance with the remaining amount. She will submit a letter from her landlord/apartment management that states the amount due that is remaining. She will be notified that this is a one time help and cannot be requested again at a later date. Update as of 5/19: Adoptive Mom experienced a Medical Emergency over the weekend and is in the hospital.

The family is asking that some volunteers or a company come out and help trim the trees in their front yard and they are over growing and this can cause some concern during hurricane season.

I have a grandmother who is currently caring for her 9 grandchildren. The grandmother needs assistance with ensuring that each child has a proper place to sleep. The grandmother needs 3 twin size beds or two bunk beds to accommodate her grandchildren. Please help this grandmother as she is not receiving financial assistance from the parents to care for the children. No child deserves to sleep on the floor.

A single mother of two recently secured an apartment for herself and her children. Fortunately, she has received support from members of the community to help with basic necessities while she works to establish stable employment. However, she has been unable to obtain beds and a couch for the apartment. Currently, the family is sleeping on air mattresses, which are uncomfortable and sometimes prevent the teenagers from getting restful sleep. The mother is seeking assistance to furnish her home with 2 twin beds, a queen bed, and couches for her children. Providing these essentials would help transform their apartment into a comfortable and welcoming home, allowing the family to rest peacefully at night.

A young 20-year-old Hispanic Female is pregnant. She is expected to give birth July 2nd, 2025, to a baby girl. She is in need of assistance of getting a car seat for her newborn baby. In addition, mother could use assistance with having some diapers/wipes and baby clothes when she gives birth to her newborn daughter. If mother was to get assistant, this can strengthen her ability to care for her daughter when she arrives home from hospital.

The infant was recently placed with the paternal grandmother who isn’t employed and took in the child to avoid the child being placed in foster care.

The family is in need child proof locks for the cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom. They need child proof doorknobs, child proof wall plugs, and baby gate, and medication lock box. If the needs are met this will preserve the placement.

PAL (Preparation for Adult Living) is taking 20 youth to a college conference. This conference allows foster youth to hear from youth with lived experience who are currently attending college, benefits for attending college, and getting youth excited for their future. We are in need of additional assistance for some items needed:

• 20 beach towels
• Snacks for 20 youth for three days
• Hygiene packs (body wash, shampoo and conditioner, wash cloth, mouth wash and deodorant)

Male student age 17 passed from being hit by car and mental illness. Sibling age 14 grieving. Mother passed away from cancer a few years ago. Father works but does not have all of the money for funeral of 3,000 dollars and add ons. Father reports that student's organs saved three lives, a teen, a toddler and middle aged woman and that his son would have wanted it that way because he was kind. Hospital is going to provide some of the costs but has not informed parent as of yet. Father says any help would be appreciated as he counting on donations to help with services.
