This youth was recently placed with his aunt and her partner through a transfer of custody to avoid foster care. The youth is a 14yo male who is autistic with significant needs. He experienced significant abuse and neglect while in the care of his bio mother. Several of his needs were not being met such as physical, mental, medical and educational needs which has impacted his development. The youth's aunt and her partner have been working diligently to meet his needs as well as the needs of his adult brother (21yo), who is also autistic. The family has requested some items to foster his development, especially now that schools is no longer in session. The following items are of need: a folding activity table (for a teenager, folding desk may be better to accommodate his size), kinetic sand and tray, puzzles, coloring books and a floor lamp for his bedroom.

Mother of two Autism children in need of two beds located at a local church. She has no way of moving the beds. The two beds are in storage and needs delivery to her Apt. She has moved from another state and has no connections.

Family of four—consisting of a single mother and her three children (ages 4, 9, and 10)—is currently in need of rental assistance. The mother had been receiving monthly SSI payments, but those benefits unexpectedly stopped a few months ago. Her caseworker is actively working to determine the cause and resolve the issue.

In the meantime, the family is facing the risk of eviction due to the loss of income. The mother is hardworking and committed to supporting her family but needs short-term assistance to catch up on rent. She is also working closely with a parent mentor, who has helped her develop a contingency plan in case her benefits are not reinstated soon. The mother is hopeful that her SSI payments will resume shortly.

CDSS is currently working with a family who has employment but with multiple children is low on money for having extra expenses. The family is currently in need of a bunk bed (bunk bed, mattress, sheets, pillow) for their children to maximize the limited space they have, and to ensure the children have safe and proper bedding.

Clothing request for a 7 year old female placed with her god-mother after court intervention from DSS. This request will help preserve a placement that is not receiving financial assistance for taking in this child.

I am working with a family of 6 that is in need of a refrigerator and a water filter/ purifier for their kitchen sink. This family previously used a water purifier system inside a refrigerator that suddenly stopped working. The family currently has one refrigerator but needs to replace the one that suddenly broke to be able to store food for the family of 6. The family said that they would be grateful for a full size or mini fridge. The family would be grateful to receive used items to fulfill this request. The father works hard and is able to pay rent and other utilities, but the family is not able to make this purchase at this time as it was not planned for.

This family speaks Spanish.

Please consider helping this struggling young family. Mom is trying to provide a better life for her two young children and create a safe loving space while working two jobs. They are in need of gently used twin beds, frames or mattresses to meet the basic requirements for children to live with her. The family has moved just out of Charlottesville since rent was more affordable but is willing and able to pick up items anywhere. Family speaks english.

The department is requesting assistance for a mother who is making significant progress toward reunification with her daughter. She has recently been approved for overnight visits and is in need of the following items to ensure her child’s safety and comfort: • A baby bed rail for her crib that converts into a bed • Summer clothing for a toddler (size 18–24 months) • Pull-ups for potty training (size 4 or 5) Any support or donations to help meet these needs would be greatly appreciated as this mother continues to take important steps toward reunification.

We have placed a sibling group of 5 special needs young children placed in two different kinship families. The Department has secured a set of bunk beds and a single bed to facilitate this placement. The family needs assistance assembling these beds. They would welcome help to stabilize this very traumatizing placement. They would welcome the assistance any time after May 30.2025. I am requesting support on behalf of a single mother of five children who is currently facing significant hardship. After relocating to Virginia, her only nearby family support was her sister, who is disabled and unable to provide sustained help. The family recently endured a difficult eviction process that forced them to move in with the sister and her four children, resulting in a crowded and stressful living situation with 11 people in one home.

During this time, the mother worked at a local retail store, but the store closed, leading to a major loss of income. Despite these challenges, she has shown incredible resilience and has recently secured independent housing for herself and her children.

As they transition into their new home, they are in need of basic household items to make the space safe and livable. They were unable to store most of their belongings during their recent transitions and are starting over with very limited resources.

The family is in need of (prices indicated are approximate and may be less than stated):

1. Beds for all six – two bunk beds with mattresses, two twin beds with mattresses, and twin bedding sets
2. Pots and pans for cooking
3. Plates, cups, and bowls (set for 6)
4. Cleaning supplies (all-purpose spray, sponges, toilet cleaner, Lysol wipes, etc.)
5. Kitchen table with chairs

Gently used items and any other assistance during this critical time would be deeply appreciated.

A family that is enrolled in the Bright Stars early intervention preschool program is seeking a "full over full" trundle bed for the preschooler and her older sibling so that they no longer have to sleep on a mattress on the floor of their grandmother's living room.
The family is currently in shared housing with the maternal grandparents due to limited financial resources. The mother is currently taking classes at CATEC to obtain her CNA license so that he is able to provide for her family by obtaining skilled employment. The father is currently unable to provide for the family financially due to immigration concerns. The need for a "full over full" trundle bed size is to allow enough space for the 5th grader and the kindergartener to sleep comfortably and have room to move as both toss and turn throughout the night. Both children are experiencing increased stress and anxiety at the moment due to the current situation that is causing sleep disturbances. The family is also in need of one full size mattress.
