Mom has worked very hard to overcome issues stemming from drug use, poverty, and difficulty in parenting. All five children have been returned to her care. She works and cares for the children, four of whom have special needs. She has a car but no car seats for the two youngest. She would like to be able to take the kids in the car to their respective services, and to outings to the park to get fresh air and exercise.

Help Preserve a Kinship Placement
An aunt in this community has recently received her nephew in her care as a kinship placement. The infant is very fussy and likes to be held all the time and refuses to sleep in his pack and play and only falls asleep while the aunt is holding him. The aunt believes he would benefit from a bassinet/crib that would help sleep him better. Unfortunately, she is on a fixed income and purchasing a bassinet/crib would be difficult for her. Due to the parents being homeless for the last 2-3 years the family was not able to bring more then 1 bag of clothing with them to a shelter. Due to the family having very limited funds, they are unable to purchase new clothing for the child. The child would benefit from a community resource who could assist with providing him clothing as the child only has one shirt, one pair of jeans, one pair of socks, one pair of underwear, and one pair of sneakers.

The family consists of parents and 7 children ages from 15-3 months old. The family moved to NY from Africa within the last year and speak Swahilli. There was an incident this week where the 5 year old child's clothing caught on fire and she was sent to the hospital with progressive and significant burns. The home the family rents was found to be very cold in the children's bedroom and the heat vent not working. The family was using space heaters to keep the home warm and may have caught the child's clothing on fire when she walked to the bathroom. The family does not have the funds to purchase items to ensure the children are kept warm in the home. Space heaters can't be used in the home but an electric baseboard heater could help ensure the children's bedroom is warm. The home has minimal items including toys and activities for the children. There is also an infant that could benefit from warm sleep sacks.
