We have an Uncle that took in his niece and nephew to prevent the children going into foster care. He has had the children for a few weeks and we determined this may be a long term situation (over 6 months). The children need bed frames and mattresses. The two year old girl is sleeping in a pack and play. The seven year old boy is sleeping on a cot. If anyone can donate a toddler bed frame, a twin/ full size bed for the 7 year old, and mattresses, the relative would really appreciate the assistance. The family is also open to bunk beds if that is available. Please reach out if you can assist with used beds or new beds. Thank you!

A sweet grandmother has recently taken custody of her three grandchildren. The children have been placed into foster care, but the grandmother has opened her doors and allowed the children to be placed in her small home. The children do not have beds and have been sleeping on an air mattress. The sibling group is in need of a bunk bed for the two boys ages 12 &16 and a twin size bed for the girl age 8. The bedrooms are fairly small so twin bunkbeds would be best. The children will also need twin size mattresses for the beds, sheets, comforters & pillows. If you are able to assist this family with beds during this difficult time or know of someone who can assist with this need, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You so much!

DCCCA Family Preservation is hosting our 3rd Annual Christmas Party for the at-risk families we serve. This event gives families the opportunity to step away from their stressful life events, even for just a short while, to have a joyful evening full of fun, food, and festivities. This event can help form positive core memories for vulnerable children -- many who experience extreme poverty and would love nothing more than some bonding time with their parents to play games, have a nice meal, sing and even laugh together. DCCCA is a nonprofit organization; therefore, we rely on the generosity of the community to help fund our events. Donated funds will help us purchase the food, paper goods, and other essential items. If you are able, please consider helping us bring smiles and laughter to the faces of many children as we share with them the magic and joy of Christmas. Thank you for all you do for the community!

Placement is the 65 year old great grandmother of four kids under the age of 5, three of which reside with her in a relative placement and one that is being moved to her care but is not there full time yet. She also provides full time care for an elderly friend with high medical needs. The family was receiving money during the 90 day licensing process but something happened and the licensing worker dropped the ball. The last check she received was for $28 and that was for diapers for the 1 year old. She is set to start receiving maintenance checks again on the 15th of November.
The family is in danger of losing their home because the landlord is threatening to evict over charges accrued without her knowledge. The property management changed offices and she was not informed of the new mailing address. Despite being able to pay the past rent and the rent for the next two months, the landlord has given them a three day notice to get the money to pay the fees or they will change the locks and she and everyone else in her care will be homeless with no relatives able to accommodate all five of them under their roof. We are trying to preserve placement so that the siblings can remain in the home with family and not be split up. One of the children has developmental needs and fares better without change and there are no funds to put the ailing adult into a home outside of the one she resides in.

J is an 18 year old male who entered foster care at the age of 12 and is an independent, confident young man. His plans for housing have changed since creating a plan with his case manager to age out of care. HIs new living arrangements provide no place keep his belongings and previous placement can no longer accommodate his belongings. . The loss of all of his belongings and everything he has collected over the years would be a significant loss and concern for him.
We are requesting support in the form of payment for a storage unit for 2 months and transportation to move his belongings into a unit in Wyandotte County. During this time he will continue to work with agencies and resources to find stability and a place to call home.

C is very new to foster care after living with friends for the last 2 years. They couldn't care for him any longer so at 17 he came into foster care. He has had a past with drugs and KVC has told him that if he tests clean for drugs and continues to test clean then he will be able to start Driver's Education. This is motivation that this worker has seen begin to take effect. His levels have been dropping since coming into foster care and I would like to have the funds in place to get him into driver's education when he keeps up his end of the deal. He is a good kid but has been through a lot in his life, he has siblings that are also into drugs, his bio mom is in and out of jail and on Meth, the woman he calls mom recently died. KVC just thinks he could use a break and wants to be there to support him. Thank you.
