I recently met with a Springfield City Schools employee to deliver a collapsable ramp that was donated. Their story has touched my heart, and I would like to share their story with you. The wife works part-time with our Food Service Department, and three years ago her husband suffered a stroke during surgery that left him partially paralyzed. He is immobile and needs assistance from his wife who takes care of him in their home. She leaves the house to work only a couple of hours a day during his physical therapy so she can be home to care for him the rest of the day. He needs assistance with everything that he does. This couple was extremely grateful to receive this ramp because they are hoping that insurance will approve a motorized chair that will help the husband gain independence again. The husband is a veteran who drove a semi-truck for majority of his life. Despite their hardships, they have a positive attitude about life. I would like to help them in the future with the co-pay for his chair if the purchase is approved by insurance. For now, one small thing that they expressed they could use is a Shower Bench. They have a used one, but it has a rip on the cushion, and it pinches his leg. I will include a link to one similar on Amazon. Please let us know if you know someone who could donate one. This gesture will help improve the life of an employee, and that will help our students!

When this amazing grandmother saw that her grandchildren were living in an unsafe environment, she did not hesitate to get Children Services involved and volunteer to provide them a safe, loving home. Thankfully, the family of 7 felt supported by the various community partners they connected to and many of their immediate needs were met, including a toddler mattress from CarePortal! A new need the family has is a swing for the 5-month-old baby girl. They had one donated to them, but unfortunately there were no straps to secure the baby while swinging. If you have a working swing you’d be willing to donate, they would be so appreciative because the baby loves to swing! Thank you for supporting this new kinship family!
Bethany:
I was the person who delivered the swing but mistakenly forgot to attach the straps. I had contacted her already about dropping them off to her. Should I not do that?
Family needs assistance with food monthly. The student currently lives with her father and lacks communication with her parent. Student could use a mentor. Having food in the home and helping the student to become self sufficient would increase the students attendance and remove the learning barrier.

I am not sure if this would work, but my mother in law just received another person's grocery order and they won't take it back. It is a good amount of non perishable and some refrigerated items, but she is willing to donate these groceries if it would help in any way.
Grandmother raising 3 grandchildren is seeking help with a utility bill through AES. The AES company will be coming to conduct an audit due to high electrical costs, but the current monthly invoice is $1030.

Jereme:
We'll pick up toothpaste, brushes, shampoo, soap, bleach, toilet paper, paper towels, and some food staples. It would not hurt for another to give additional food.

We have a grandmother who is providing care for 3 of her nonverbal autistic grandchildren. One of the children is a climber and the grandmother had to get rid of the kitchen table due to it being unsafe for this particular youth. Family is in need of a booth type table, or a custom built one that could be mounted to the floor and walls.

There are resources made available from the community. We are taking the lead and working out the details. We plan to meet with the Grandmother to see what exactly she is looking for and how we can best meet her needs.
