Seeking assistance to support a trial home placement of a 5 yo non-verbal autistic child. Services are limited in the area for the child & his developmental needs (non-verbal autistic) has added an extra layer of stress to the family. For the last 8 months, the parents have been traveling for services & visitation each week. The mother is stay-at-home as the child cannot be placed in daycare. She is wanting to get out in the community with the child; however, the financial strain they endured over months has made it difficult. We are seeking a variety of items to support the family. Once custody of the child returns to the parents, they will be able to access additional support like SNAP; however, they cannot do so while the child is on a trial home placement. Items needed include: baby wipes (child is not toilet trained), cleaning supplies (disinfectant, paper towels, Swiffer wet clothes, trash bags, dish detergent), toilet paper, paper plates, gas cards, sponsorship for pool pass for 2 (child and mother), and a kid's sensory body sock (he wears a child's size 10). Regarding cleaning supplies, the child often throws items around, pours things on the floor, etc., creating a significant amount of cleaning for the family. They could also use laundromat funds as their apartment does not have laundry facilities, including laundry detergent.

This family is the product of a broken marriage and subsequent move of the mother and daughter in with the elderly grandmother. This family's cell phone bill is past due. Service not only includes the cell phone for the child but also her only internet access from home which she uses to complete school work.

A student is needing dental work pretty severly. The sibling just had dental work done a few months ago and the family can not afford to cover the dental work their second child is now needing.

The procedure was schedule, but the clinic would not proceed with it until the $100 from his previous appointment was paid for and the total for Phase 1 ($1,338.00) is paid. School personel has spoken with the dental office and they will not set the family up on a payment plan. Once phase 1 is done, they will then make an appointment for Phase 2, and again will not proceed with it until it is paid for ahead of time.

The proposed bill is $2,466.00 total.

A mother is in the process of moving herself and her children out of her ex-partner’s home to begin a fresh start. She is in need of essential furniture to help create a safe and comfortable new space for her family. Specifically, she is looking for beds — ideally a full-size, a queen, and a toddler bed. Additionally, any dressers, a dining table with chairs, or other household items that could support this transition would be deeply appreciated. Every contribution makes a meaningful difference during this important time of rebuilding.

Hello! A grandmother recently became emergency approved as a foster parent for her 5 year old granddaughter through our agency. She is currently going through a divorce while now trying to raise her granddaughter. She is in need of a twin sized trundle bed and mattress so that the child has an appropriate place to sleep in her home. Currently the child is sleeping in her bed, and she is sleeping on the sofa. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A family with four children is temporarily living with other family members in a crowded living situation while they look for other housing. They are struggling with declutter due to lack of space in trailer and number of household members currently residing in the home. In order to keep the living space safe for the children, they are greatly in need of large, sturdy storage tubs with lids to work on decluttering and organization in the household to reduce safety concerns.

Single mom is having a hard time meeting her needs. She has a 14 year old child, and another child who recently and suddenly passed away. She is under extreme stress and is in currently in school. To add to the stress, her home refrigerator broke and all of her food expired. Her landlord is working to fix the refrigerator, but she is in need of food in the meantime. Mom is aware of your services through her church. Mom also states she is in need of an AC unit. Can you please assist with urgent needs?

A family has recently undergone a house fire and lost all of their belongings. This family has specifically requested help in getting their 7 year-old daughter some new clothes and belongings. The child wears 10/12 clothes and wears shoe size 1. She will also need undergarments, socks, and any essential items- as she has lost everything.

Anything to help is appreciated.

Single mother who moved to the Lynchburg area with her elementary aged son and daughter. Mom has made sure the kid have almost everything they need, often neglecting herself. Mom just has a mattress on the floor, is in need of a bed frame, and 2 dressers.

Mom of two. Son have significant behavioral concerns that causes him to run out of the home. Mom lives about 500 ft from a busy main road. Mom would like safety locks for the front and back door. Another need is dressers for mom and 2 kids (1 girl, 1 boy).

Mom who has been in a Domestic Violence relationship, recent incident cause mom to have an busted lip, dislocated jaw that is requiring her to need reconstructive surgery. This family is in need of a bed for mom as she has been sleeping on an air mattress since she moved in Nov. and a sofa to give her and her son a place to sit, so they don't have to spend all their time in the bedroom.

D, a 5yo non-verbal autistic child, recently started a trial home placement with his parents. Both parents have worked to meet service plan goals and the placement has been determined to be safe. Unfortunately, resources for children with developmental needs are limited in the area as well as child care options. For the parents to continue to meet their service plan goals, they must participate in mental health services. The father works outside of the home and the mother is a stay-at-home parent. To support this trial home placement and its long-term stability, the Department is looking for assistance with the following:

1. Someone to provide childcare for 1-1.5 hours every week or every other week to D. while his mother participates in counseling services (Volunteer would need to complete background checks w/ the Department). While the weather is nice, this could be provided at a park or similar. This is needed now through August when school starts.
2. Any suggestions on resources for a child with this level of needs. He has Medicaid and is open to FAPT and CSA funding. For ABA therapy, Compass has an up-to 1-year waitlist. He has an IEP with the schools and will be assessed for VIA; however, there are no summertime options identified at this time to provide respite to the mother &/or behavioral support. So suggestions for any in-home providers for ABA or other intensive therapies, any camps or supportive day services, behavioral supports, etc., would be appreciated.
