Single mom of 3 children is in need of getting birth certificates for her children so they can enroll in a new school. This family has been homeless, and by staying at many different homes, she has lost a lot of important information. We have been helping her get her ID, SSN, and now birth certificates for her and her children. This transition for the kids has been tough and she believes them switching schools to where they are now will help them become more stable. This process is all part of her getting a job, housing, etc. We are wrapping around this mom to support her in this process!
Combined family of 5 kids and two adults (mom and aunt) need assistance paying off past due rent. This would allow the family to look into a new home that can more easily house everyone. Mother and aunt are working but this debt continues to compile.

Good afternoon. I am a caseworker for the Cass County MO Children's Division. One of the families on my caseload is needing assistance in moving their mobile home/RV Trailer to a new location in the community. The mother currently does not have a vehicle and has very low income. She is needing help/volunteer with a truck/trailer hitch to move her current home (a mobile RV) to a new location nearby. The mother's RV has been sitting at a friends home, however it can no longer stay their. The mother has found a nearby lot that will accept her RV.
This request will help preserve the mother's home stability and prevent her from being homeless. Additionally, once the RV is in a stable lot/location, Children's Division may be able to assess the RV as a possible home option for the mother's children to live in while the mother looks for other housing options. Currently the mother's two children ages 12 and 13 are in a foster home in Jackson County.
The only cost for this request is a volunteer's time and maybe a small amount of gas money.
Diane:
We have a team that can move the trailer. We will need to know how much it weighs and what kind/size of hitch it has, and we can help! Please reach out with details.
I have a 15 year old foster child on my caseload who currently has braces but has been unable to get the brackets replaced and be seen by the orthodontist as her step-mother has not been financially able to make the monthly payment. The 15 year old's braces were put on in 2020 when she was residing with her biological father and step-mother. Since coming into care with three of her siblings (there are 5 kids total- one is not in care), the step-mother has not been able to pay the monthly bill due to other priorities (rent, utilities, food, gas, after school programs, sports, etc). The step-mother is employed full time but still does not have the finances to get caught up on the 15 year old's braces.
Assistance for the braces is greatly needed as the 15 year old's is starting to struggle with the lack of services required to maintain her braces. I do have the billing from the orthodontist office for verification of pricing.
To get the plan re-open, the cost will be $500. To pay off the total amount for the braces and receive current maintenance for the braces is $2300.00
I have a mom on my caseload who is currently expecting. She is due 01/18. She is currently living in a women’s shelter and has recently informed me she does not have any baby clothes or diapers and wipes. Anything purchased or donated will be helpful.
My team is assisting a family who has 3 young children in the home who is needing some assistance with utilities. Mom is currently on leave due to welcoming a new child on Christmas. Due to her limited income her utilities water, lights and gas have fallen behind and have received shut off notices.
Location: Kansas City, MO 64134-County:Jackson-Children Served: 3-Adults Served: 1-Agency: #MO- DSS-Tier 1: Physical Needs-Estimated Value:$1041
Father of 3 needing assistance with paying for gas and groceries. The family has just recently gotten into an apartment after living between a car and a hotel for months. After utilities and rent were paid no money remains for gas to get the kids to summer school, to pick up groceries, and get Dad to work.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated
***Update*** Utilities for this family have been disconnected. Some payments have been made however, a $2,000 balance remains to reconnect service. A mother with two kids is in need of assistance with utilities asap. The family was abandoned by the husband/father and is now at risk for service disconnection. The mother works hard but has been struggling to stay on top of things since being abandoned by her husband. She's been trying to borrow money from family and friends but time is running out. She is afraid that losing electricity will put the family at risk and that her children could possibly be taken from her. Any Assistance for this family would be greatly appreciated. Mom received a shut-off notice on 5/23/22 for $3,265.24
A family with 3 children is in need of assistance to pay for the father's surgery, so that they don't fall behind on rent. The father is the only source of income for the family, so recovering from surgery will also impact the family's income and ability to pay bills.
As a previous worker at Children's Division I know first hand the stress and hard work these workers go through. I would love to spread some love to the local Children's Division office downtown KC by supplying them with an Ice Maker. This seem like a small thing but they have been needing an ice maker since I was there 2 1/2 years ago and even before then. They have an older fridge that they have some ice trays in the freezer but that is not enough for everyone to add some ice to their beverages. An Ice maker would be a huge blessing to these workers as they can grab ice and water on their way to their next visit. They could grab ice for the soda donated to them from churches.
I have done some research on ice makers and have found a few that could work for their break room space. I am asking $500 for the ice maker and an additional $500 to help cheer up their break room adding new chairs, tables and items to make it feel more inviting and comfortable.
These items could go a long way for these workers and just in time for the hot days coming up! Thank you!
A single mother with two sons, 10 yrs and 7 yrs is in need of assistance with rent. This mother of two loss employment brought on by the pandemic and struggles with getting a job. This has caused her to fall behind in her rent and is urgently in need of assistance to avoid eviction.
We are working with a single mom with 3 children and has been homeless for about 5 months. She recently found employment and is doing her best to get back on her feet. Unfortunately her car has recently broken down and is at risk of losing her job. We helped her get her car in for an assessment and unfortunately the repair costs exceed the value of the vehicle. We are looking for a vehicle donation, or to raise the funds to cover the cost of an older Explorer model along with any additional costs for repair of the replacement vehicle. Reliable transportation is so critical to helping families regain and sustain stability; we would really love to be able to bring some good news to this mother. Thank you so much for considering this need!
The mother on this case has completed all services and is close to reunification with her son. The mother utilizing a car that her father provided her to assist with reunification but he is now wanting it back leaving this mother without proper transportation. The mother has a Jeep Grand Cherokee that has been sitting for a year. She has put in a new battery, alternator, starter, serpentine belt tensioner pulley and harmonic balancer. She changed all the spark plugs, put on new coil packs, new head gaskets and timing chain. She has put on a new cherry bomb straight pipe muffler, changed out 2 or 3 sensors. The drivers side inside door panel wont stay on and the cv boots and knuckles are bad on the front. The four wheel drive is in 2 wheel bc the joint and shaft busted and were removed. The shaft is in the back. the right tire is flat too. The mother makes about 1000 a month and is needing help with her car to make sure she is able to take her son to school, school activities and to his regular doctors appointments. The mother has tried everything she can to get the car working again but needs help to figure out what is wrong with it or to find a car she can afford on her own.
UPDATE: Our team from New Life CityChurch helped assess the vehicle and have determined that the necessary repairs exceed the value of the vehicle. We found a 2014 Chevy Cruze with 66k miles worth about $6k-$8k available for purchase for only $3,000. We have $1,000 of funding from the original request (63649, We are trying to raise the other $2,000 to take advantage of this great opportunity to the purchase the Chevy for this mom so she can finally have her own reliable transportation for her and her son.
Anything helps! Please email care@newlifekc.org with questions. Thank you wonderful CarePortal community!
