Foster Source regularly receives requests for non-certified kinship caregivers in need of safety items. Non-certified kin can become certified and receive much needed financial assistance just like traditional foster parents. One of the requirements for certification are safety items - 5lb fire extinguishers, cabinet locks/outlet covers, medicine lock boxes, and carbon monoxide & smoke detectors. We could use your help in getting these items so that when families make the request, we have them on hand to distribute in a timely fashion. If you are able to provide any of these items (in any quantity), they can be delivered to our office within the Adams County Human Services Building (Westminster) or we can arrange a pick up. Thank you for helping us with this frequent and urgent need!
Kinship caregivers are working on foster care certification, but have ran into some delays that are beyond their control. They are behind with some of their bills, and stated that getting help with diapers and wipes would be a huge help. Their grandson is 9 months, and wears size 4 diapers. A case of each would be super helpful.

This youth has been in the foster care system for most of her teenage life. Parents rights were terminated and it has been a struggle for this youth to get stabilized. We were recently able to find her a kinship placement and stabilize the youth, however she has no belongings of her own. This youth turns 18 in a few months and will then be a part of the Foster Youth in Transition program and is trying to get belongings of her own. The current placement does not have a bed and this youth is sleeping on the couch currently. The kinship provider is working to fix the basement, which just flooded adding a financial burden, into a room for the youth and is hoping for some help purchasing a bed for this youth so that she feels more stabilized and at home.

I have been working with this family for about two years. At this point, maternal grandparents are nearing adoption for their three grandchildren who are 4, 5, and 13. Prior to this, I worked with the children's biological parents in an attempt to reunify. Biological mother selflessly relinquished her parental rights after deciding she was not going to be able to safely care for her kids and knowing her parents would be the best home for the kids. Mom struggled with addiction and as of lately had started coming around to help out with the kids again as she had gotten sober and wanted to help her parents out. We received the news on 5/18 that mom had passed away and it was likely related to an overdose.
The family is heartbroken and grandparents are doing whatever they can to get things in order and care for the kids. They are needing assistance in burial costs and anything would help. This request is asking for anything to be done regarding mom's funeral and memorial.

This is a single mom who has recently been evicted from her apartment and now residing in a sober home for 30 days. She is working to get money so that when she is out she can get a place of her own. While doing this, she is also attempting to re-engage in her schooling program to get her degree. Her laptop charger has been lost in the move and she is not without. She is asking for help getting this replaced. It is an HP laptop and she will just need a general charger.

A young single kinship parent is looking for a little assistance in getting some size 7 Pampers pullups (70 count) and bedding for the new toddler bed the child has grown into. The provider found a comforter and bedding set at Target. She said it doesn't matter if that if she is given a gift card to get that one, or if that is not possible, she is not particular. She is requesting that the colors be white, beige or light grey, "girly" is ok, but no characters. Due to the increase in costs of utilities, gas and food, it is becoming increasingly more difficult for her to provide some these extras for her niece. Her niece has been placed with her for over two years now, and the provider rarely asks for help. As a matter of fact, she is always sending this Kinship worker resources for other families!

Kinship providers have had a male (8) and a female (10) children in their home for the past three months. The children came with very little clothing, toys and personal items. The Care portal and other organizations have assisted this family with the holidays and birthday gifts, but the family has depleted their savings account trying to provide for the extra costs of additional groceries, clothing, personal items, increased transportation costs due to visitations, therapy appointments, activities, etc. and activities for the children. The 8 year old boy needs Good Nites, size small/medium, as he still wets his bed at night. 2 cases would last them for two-to three months. The family has registered the children for basketball ($50 fee) and club volleyball ($250 plus $20 first time player fee) and would greatly appreciate help with these costs. The family has already charged these fees on a credit card, so gift cards to help the family save money in other areas (Walmart, King Soopers etc.) would make a big difference. In addition, they are purchasing the boy basketball shoes and the girl shoes/knee pads for volleyball. Any gift cards to help with these fees or gifts cards for gas /shoes would be very helpful. Updated on January 19, 2023 by an Agency Worker The need for Goodnites has been fulfilled! Thank you!
We also received $100 gift card donation outside of the Care Portal. Updated on January 24, 2023 by an Agency Worker The request for gift cards for sneakers and knee pads has been met!!! Thank you.

Child does not have many toys that she can access. Provider made suggestions for the request for these purposes:
"These books have vibrant colors and strong visual support. The text is repetitive and predictable for (child). There are sliding doors throughout the book, which will keep (child) engaged and she make predictions about what comes next. Colors can be targeted as well as body parts. Rhyming can also be targeted as well."
"The lift and flap books and the wooden latch puzzles are sturdy, interactive and engaging for (child). The colorful pictures provide great visual support to boost receptive and expressive language. Action words, nouns, concepts (locative, sequential), etc can be targeted when playing with these. (child) can follow directions (open the....close the....find the....point to....) and take turns with a relative who plays with her."
