We are working with a family that could use a hand up at this time. Mom had emergency gallbladder surgery, resulting in 3 weeks off work recovering without pay. Dad also recently took a cut in pay, so this family is struggling financially. They are currently $447.31 past due on their electric bill. This is causing the family a lot of stress, as keeping the electricity on is critical in preventing the removal of their child from the home. Any amount toward this need would be greatly appreciated and will be a preventative measure to avoid the disruption of this well-bonded family unit.

Children’s Division is requesting assistance for a relative that is caring for 2 children on a safety plan. The children are currently staying with a relative, but is needing some assistance with Daycare while the children are in their home. The relative is paying $200 a week total for the children in daycare, while they work. The children were placed in their home as part of an emergency safety plan, therefore the relative was not accepting to provide for daycare on short notice. If the need is met this would help the relative financially until further arrangements can be made, along with Children’s Division and the family coming up with a more permanent solution

Single mom with 4 children is in critical need of a place to stay. She has triplets that are 6 months old and an 18th month old as well. She is getting out of a domestic abuse situation and will be out by the end of this week. She is a strong mother who is looking to turn her life around and get herself in a position to take care of herself and her children. We are looking to move her into a home that is very suitable for what will be best for her and her children. In order to do this, she is needing help to pay the rent. She has not been able to work due to the chaos that has been taking place. Paying the rent will allow her to move into this home and transition into this new life she has been hoping for.

Single mom with 4 children is needing assistance in paying rent. She has gotten behind because she has not been able to work due to her mother being in the hospital and then having to stay at home once she was out to take care of her. She is living paycheck to paycheck and needing help to get back on her feet. She is a great mother who is trying to take care of her children to the best of her abilities. Helping pay her rent would allow her to continue to take care of the needs of her children, like paying for food and other important necessities.

Mother and father with their 3 children (ages 7 months, 7 years, and 5 years old) moved to Kansas City from Houston recently and are homeless. We have been keeping them in a hotel for the past week and we are needing to extend their stay for an additional week so they have more time to figure out their next move. The parents are very dedicated in trying to figure out work and a living situation so they can go about and take care of their 3 children. We would love to bless them with another hotel stay for a week, and would appreciate any help!

A family consisting of four ( two kids aged 4 and 6) want help with cleaning their home. The father was very tearful and asking for support/help. Assisting with this need will allow a fresh start for the family.
The family is requesting trash bags, a mop, disinfectant and magic erasers (the little ones have colored on several walls and appliances).

A relative placement of a 5 month old girl has had her electricity disconnected and needs assistance to help turn it back on. Her minimum payment is $5.04, there is a $30.00 reconnect fee, and $60.00 to keep her from getting disconnected again for one month. KVC has recently assisted her in obtaining WIC to assist with formula which will help her to be able to pay her bills to maintain placement. Any assistance is much appreciated.

I am working with a single mother and child who are on the path to recovery. The mom is a army veteran and has suffered severe trauma from her deployments. She was without her daughter for some time but they have worked hard to be reunited. Her daughter is also diagnosed with very serious and specific mental health concerns that require a counselor with very specific skills. We were able to find this counselor but it requires a 2 hour drive (both ways) each week and the mother is on disability through the military so has a limited income. We would like to be able to provide her with a $200 gas card to help her get back and forth without causing a huge strain to her budget due to current gas prices. Any amount would be helpful and very much appreciated! Thank you for considering this request and for all you do in our community to strength our families and support workers like me!

Mother has a two year child who has severe special needs; he recently had G Tube Insertion procedure so he can eat more efficiently. He has trouble maintaining necessary weight so he is involved in multiple clinics at Children's Mercy Hospital and usually has two or more appts per week at CMH. He recently was accepted into Ability KC Pre School which means he will go to Ability KC Pre School each weekday for Occupational and Physical Therapy and care each day. He has medical diagnoses of Periventricular Leukomalacia, Brain Disease- death or damage or softening of the white matter the inner part of the brain which transmits information.... and Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia., Chronic Lung Disease of Premature Babies. The parents are responsible for getting the child to Ability KC Pre School each day. The Ability KC Pre School is a prestigious program that kids have to qualify for based on their medical needs and disabilities. The automobile that the mother has access to at this time does not belong to her and it is not running well. Mother is afraid that the car will break down soon, and she has no control over the owner of the car who is prone to leave the home and not return so she can take her son to appointments.

This child has recently finally found a wonderful placement to live with who adores her and wants the best for her. This placement wants to include the child in everything that they do as a family. The whole kinship family had purchased season passes to Worlds of Fun before the child came to live with them. The family doesn’t want to leave her behind when they use their passes, but they can’t afford to purchase a season pass for her. The family is asking for assistance to purchase a season pass for the child who is new to their household so that they can all go and enjoy Worlds of Fun together.

I am currently working with a teen that has started a lot of different services for mental and medical health. With multiple appointments and gas prices, there as been an increase in the cost of travel for the mother that she was not expecting with her income. I am asking for a donation (of any amount) to go toward a gas card to help the family afford the gas for transportation to and from these multiple weekly appointments. Thank you for considering this request and for all your support in our community. I am amazed as the support our cases receive through CarePortal and cannot thank all of you enough for stepping up to help us work with families to achieve their goals!

Mother and father with their 3 children (ages 7 months, 7, and 5) moved to Kansas City from Houston recently and are homeless. The job he came here for fell through. With this extreme heat going on, we are trying our best to keep them in a cool, safe living environment. We are looking to have them stay at a hotel for a couple nights until we can come up with a long term plan for this family. By helping them with a hotel stay, we can allow them time to figure out their next move. We would also love to help them with groceries and other necessary items!

Family with 2 kids. The entire family had COVID-19. The family lost jobs and housing due to these events. We have secured the family housing and helped the gather secure a good job with the post office that will carry his family’s bills on going. The family is in need of rental assistance until his checks become regular. They are truly grateful to be out of the hotel and into a home. Any assistance provided will be greatly appreciated!!!

A family of 6 is struggling to pay their rent this month due to a recent increase in other expenses. There are 4 children, 3 boys ages 14, 7, 1, and 1 girl age 6. They need assistance with food, clothing, and this month's rent. They have paid all the rest of their bills. Dad is the only one working so their budget is tight. Mom does not speak english as they have only been in the US from Guatemala for just a year. The children sizes are 14-16 boys, 7-8 boys, 18 months boy, and 6X girls. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

We responded to a CarePortal request for this family back in September. Bio family had just reintegrated with their two female children ages 5 and 4 and were needing help with rent and two dressers. We were able to connect on both of the needs and met this sweet family in person to deliver the items. Soon after, a car battery installation was needed and before we even had a chance to have one of our volunteers get over there to help, dad had already taken care of it himself. They have a strong desire to be independent.
We have been staying in touch with them and they recently let us know that the vehicle had broken down for good. Thankfully, they have another car they can use if the past due payment on it is made. They are able to afford the monthly payments on their own, they just need help getting caught up. Any amount is appreciated and will help get them closer to self-sufficiency again.

Platte county has an infant in foster care who has been placed with their grandmother. The Grandmother is working to get licensed as a relative provider so she can continue to have the infant in her home. Grandma does not currently have car insurance and this is needed for licensure. Grandma is unable to get this started due to financial barriers. If she is unable to get car insurance, she may not be able to continue as placement for her grandchild. She states that if the first two months are covered, than she will be able to keep it going.
She has called around and the amount needed for the first two months of coverage is $235.00.

Please let the grandmother know about the SPEAC Food Pantry. This may help with her expenses. If she calls(###) ###-#### and tells them she was referred by Care Portal, they can likely set her up for groceries. Additionally, SPEAC is having a drive-thru event on Sat May 21 from 9-11am at the Parkville Presbyterian Church 819 Main St (lower level off 9 highway). All are welcome at the drive-thru event (while supplies last).
