The agency is working with a youth who has been in foster care. The youth, age 19, does receive Social Security Benefits. He saved his money for three months and was able to obtain an apartment. The only item he has is a twin bed. The agency is requesting assistance in helping this young man furnish his apartment. He needs a small sofa or love seat, dishes, glasses / cups, silverware, pots and pans, bath towels, wash clothes, dish towels, dish clothes, twin size sheets, pillowcases, blankets, and any other items one needs when they are just starting off on their own. Gently used items are fine. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

A 14-year-old youth just came into foster care via a CHINS Order for Truancy. The grandmother became the placement for the youth, and she has a room for him but no bed. The room was previously used for storage. Due to the unexpectedness of the situation, the grandmother was unable to prepare for her grandson and lacks financial resources to purchase a bed for the youth at this time. The family would greatly appreciate any assistance in obtaining a twin bed for the youth.

The agency is trying to assist an elderly gentleman whose SNAP Benefits (food stamps) were compromised by no fault of his. The agency is requesting a gift card for Food Lion to assist him. The goal is at least $50.00, but any amount would be greatly appreciated.

A sibling group of three are currently in foster care and are in separate placements. We are requesting for a twin bed frame, box spring, and mattress, as well as a toddler and booster seat. DSS is working with their grandfather to get custody of the children. The house is in need of a bed for one of the children, as well as car seats for 2 of the children. Getting these requested objects will help ensure that if or when custody is transferred to the grandparents, they have all needed objects for their home to ensure a smooth transition.

The agency is working with a single mother of six children with the youngest being four years old. She is currently employed full time. She recently moved into her home without any financial assistance from the agency. Unfortunately, the home did not come with air conditioner units. We all know how hot the summers can be here, and it isn't pleasant to say the least. Please consider helping this family. Gently use air conditioner would be fine also. They are priced at Walmart starting at $140 plus tax for a window unit air conditioner.

The agency is trying to assist an elderly couple with their utility bill for 465.00 The husband is experiencing health issues and has recently had a stroke putting him on medical leave from work. The wife had to take unpaid leave from work to provide caretaking for the spouse. They are having a struggle to maintain their financial responsibilities for utilities. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you kindly.

This is another request for a family that DSS has been working with for quite some time in order to prevent a family disruption that puts all 4 children in foster care. Currently, the children are having issues as far as going to school and they report they are embarrassed because they have no hot water, so they are unable to shower. This has been a source of stress for Mom and Dad as well, who report having to boil water for everything and not being able to keep things as clean as is necessary. The parents are on a very limited income and cannot afford to replace the hot water heater themselves. We are requesting they be assisted with this poverty issue.

The agency is currently working with a grandmother who has taken her grandchild in as a Kinship Placement. The child is 11 and she also has a child age 12. The grandmother is living in subsidized housing. She is working two jobs to make ends meet. The apartment only has beds, and no other furnishings. The agency is requesting a donation of a sofa, kitchen table with chairs, and a two dressers / chest of drawers for the children. The items do not need to be matching sets and gently used is fine. Please consider helping to make this placement successful and more comfortable for the children.

This request is to help stabilize a child who was recently in foster care in North Carolina and has now been placed with his biological father and family in Halifax County. The family is very invested and needs minor support to stabilize the child to prevent re-entry into foster care. There is a request for a bunk bed to accommodate a shared bedroom but the family will accept a twin or full, anything they can get they are appreciative. The child also needs clothes, as he was not purchased any before leaving foster care and only was provided with minimal necessities by NCDSS

This is a family that DSS has been working with in several capacities over the years. the needs are poverty driven, but this has constituted a history of abuse and neglect allegations as well as a generational history of involvement with DSS. These products and services are being requested to support the family and prevent entry into foster care for 4 minor children involved. The family's needs are great:

the boys are 13, 12, 11 and 9. The boys need school clothes and shoes. Sizes are (pants 12-14, 12, 14, and 8), (Shirts medium, large and size 8), (Shoes; mens size 8.5, mens- 7.5, mens size 8.5 and kids size 5), (underwear men sizes small and medium and children's size medium or large).

The family is also in need of: more living room furniture an electric dryer 4 twin size beds (mattresses, boxsprings, and bed frames) four comforters set for the twin size beds, and 4 sheet sets for the twin size beds. The boys need at least two chests of drawers for their bedroom for clothing storage. For the actual home: new windows are needed for the home a hot water heater is present but may need to be installed (Needs inspection, new one may be needed) all cleaning supplies( gloves, Clorox clean up, Lysol/Lysol wipes, broom, mop, mop bucket, and dish soap, toilet bowl brush) all household toiletries are needed ( soap, tooth brushes, tooth paste, deodorant, washcloths, towels, and a shower curtain).
The home needs sheet rock to patch holes in the walls and paint for the walls.
