Parents are personally transporting child over the Christmas holiday and are needing gas cards as they are facing personal medical expenses as well as ensuring the children have a good Christmas and want to have the foster youth home for the holidays with their family.
A mother that has recently reunified with her daughters just had her lights turned off and needs assistance with getting her electricity turned back on. Thankfully her heat is powered by natural gas, but she and the kids need to be able to use power to cook and do homework. Mom is struggling to figure out how to turn on her lights and pay rent for December, when her next pay check doesn't come until 12/10. Any assistance for this family would be greatly appreciated. With it being winter and the holidays, most assistance options have been pretty well exhausted.
Youth is in college at UCM. He is nearing the end of his first semester but owes a large amount on his student account and cannot register for classes for next semester until it is paid. The amount is related to his dorm and class costs, not anything he accrued on his own. Despite popular belief, college is not 100% paid for youth in foster care. After his educational and training voucher funding, scholarships, and grant funding, he still owes about $2000. His case management agency and CASA team have been scrambling the last few weeks to come up with additional funding for the youth, and it has not been enough. If not paid, he will not be able to continue in school. He did very well academically this semester, and very much wants to continue his education.
Parents are behind on utility bills, 198.45 for electric and 610.96 for gas. Children are currently placed out of the home with relatives, however, if the utilities get shut off parents will not be able to have visits in the home and it could hinder reunification as parents could be subject to eviction for having the utilities shut off. Parents are actively involved with the case and doing all services asked of them to reunify with their children. Having the utilities shut off could be a detriment for the case and cause possible delay in reunification.
Older youth, age 19, rents her own apartment. Youth's rent is $1500.00. She recently became ill and was hospitalized for a brief period of time causing her to miss several days from work. The youth's rent is due on December 1st. She needs financial assistance for her rent payment. The youth reports to have 50% of the rent payment saved.

Journey Church International can help with this need, as long as we can get a copy of the apt. complex's W9 form. We will need that before the rent check can be processed. Thanks!

They are living in a hotel and have it paid up until the 25th but need assistance trying to get the hotel paid for until December 1st. The family has a plan to get themselves in a position to be stable but needs this assistance to make their plan happen. A 17-year-old girl, eldest of her family, expressed feeling frustrated because her car needs repair. At 17, there are a lot of things she is buying for her senior year that she needs money for (college applications, basketball shoes, fees on her school account, senior pictures, etc) but without a car she is hardly able to work as she has no way to get there. She lives in a single parent household with four siblings and helps mom with running errands and taking kids to and from school. This young woman is a A+ student and is very involved in her community.
She said it would be a little over $250 to fix her car but any assistance would help tremendously.

A single mother of four is needing some assistance to help children. She is not working at this time due to the cost of daycare and has three children that are not yet in school and one being an infant. She has utilized her older car seat from her other children for the infant, but she is asking for assistance with a newer car seat that will transition as the child ages and the baby is currently about 4 1/2 months old but bigger than the average child at that age. In the request the toddler/convertible car seat was chosen as mom would like one that transitions but want to again point out that kiddo is still an infant so chose the most accurate for description purposes. She also would like to get a pack 'n play for her baby with a fitted sheet. She does not want a crib and has specifically asked for a pack 'n play only. In addition to that, the mom could also use some help with clothing for all of the children. There is a boy who is 6 years old and would wear size 7 or 8, medium, two girls ages 3 and 4 and similar in size so sizes 4 and 5 would be fine for both. The 4 1/2 month could benefit from clothing sizes 6 months and above. All of this will help keep the kiddos safe, warm, and ready for the ever-changing weather and help alleviate some of the financial stress on the mom. Thanks!
Emily:
We can help with the pack n play and crib sheet. If mom has transportation, she can visit our church's Impact Center and pick out clothes for her kiddos. She just needs to make an appointment. If she doesn't have transportation, we may be able to pick up clothing for her.

Clothes for a Child / Children (see description details)
Two single moms, each with 2 children, are in need of extra support. Although they are both employed, they struggle financially to make ends meet. They are in need of basic furniture items for their home, including a couch, a kitchen table with 6 chairs, a vacuum cleaner, and clothing storage items. A plastic dresser or storage cart for each child would be ideal. The children include a girl (age 10) and three boys (ages, 7, 4, & 4). Thank you for any help you may be able to provide. Having a table and chairs in time for Thanksgiving would be a blessing.

Single mom pregnant with her first child is needing help with paying past due rent in the amount of $1211.00. This client was working but lost her job due to having to take off from work for doctor appointments because of pregnancy complications. She was also hurt on the job due to an accident that happened that was not her fault and is currently in litigation for that. She has already been to several organizations in the Kansas City area for help, but each one is either out of funding at this time, not accepting applications at this time or are overwhelmed with applications and are not taking any more at this time. The client has been looking for another job and is hopeful she will start work soon. In the meantime, the client has just been approved for unemployment and receives a monthly check of $796.00 for blind disability (She's legally blind in one eye) that she can use to pay future rent until she starts work. Because of the amount of the request, I have broken it into 2 payments of 605.00 in hopes that some churches would like to partner together to meet this need. This will help the client from being served an eviction notice keeping her from homelessness as she prepares for the arrival of her baby in a few months.

We are specifically looking for a pair of tennis shoes for a girl, pre-school aged, size 10.5. She does not have a pair of shoes that are appropriate for school. We would love to have a few spare pairs of tennis shoes for other pre-school aged children, as school appropriate shoes are always needed at our Early Childhood Center/ Head Start. Besides the specific girls 10.5, any gender and pre-k sizes from 9-13 would be helpful. Thank you!

Mother of 3 has been working diligently to complete requirements through court ordered services to be reunified with her children. Mother is working hard however needs additional support to complete a needed class to resolve her additional court issues.
Emily:
Journey Church International can help with this need as long as we can get the documentation needed to get a check cut. We usually get a W9, but not sure who this payment will go to?
disabled Mother of 4 children with high behavioral needs is in IMMEDIATE need of rental assistance. Mother works from home and is heavily involved in the community but through a mix of needing to take time off for her kids' appointments and her car needing repair (which made her give up her side job of doing deliveries until it could be repaired), she got behind on her rent payments. Furthermore, her apartment routinely stacks late fees onto her balance, so she is further stretched. She has paid off $1300 of the amount but was informed today that she has 72 hours (11/10/2023) to pay off the remaining balance or she will be evicted.
If this amount can be paid off, not only will this secure housing for a family of five, it will allow her children to stay and receive mental health care). If balance can be paid off, mom will also not have to worry about late fees. and can begin saving her money for future emergencies, as opposed to constantly playing catch up.
