Story
I have two new needs coming from the foster care community to share with you this week. I realize they are higher level requests for our Faithway Family, but I’d ask that you please pray for the people involved and pray about how you or someone you know might be able to help. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to stall the government approval process for Care Portal, this need comes under the banner of “Church Need” even though it is a need from our community.
#1. There is a 17 year old boy who is in need of a family when he turns 18 in October and enters the Fostering Futures program through Loudoun DFS. This is an extended-foster-care program of sorts, for 18-21 yr olds aging out. Families who want to be a resource for young adults in this program DO NOT have to become licensed foster parents.
#2. A young man who was in Loudoun foster care from the age of 12 until he aged out at 18 is now 24 years old, homeless and looking for safe living arrangements. A Loudoun case worker was praying for the kids on his caseload yesterday and felt prompted to reach out to this young man that he had lost contact with. The case worker called him and found out about his need. He has a job, but it does not pay enough to cover average rent costs. The case worker has found him shelter through the weekend, but we would like to try to find him a more permanent situation.
