Story
Neighborhood House food programs serve upwards of 100 families a week. Food programs include an in-house pantry open three days a week, two weekly free lunches, distribution to nearby low income apartment complexes, local fresh produce distribution, Thanksgiving meal baskets, and take and bake community meals.
Neighborhood House relies on distributers such as Second Harvest Food Bank of Southern Wisconsin to deliver bulk food to the pantry each week. Essentials such as canned chili that were once available from Second Harvest for free now have an associated cost or are not available at all. This is in part due to covid era funding coming to an end.
The goal at our food pantry is to supply families with one week of groceries but with supplies hard to come by we have had to put strict limits on the amount of food we allow food pantry patrons to take each visit. However, many of our families have come to rely on our pantry to get enough food for their families and are understandably disappointed by the new limits.
To help make up for the lack of food coming in from our traditional sources we are hoping to source food from individual donors and partner with local organizations to hold food drives.
We appreciate anything that is donated and the list below outlines popular items along with the number we typically go through each week. We understand that we may not get 100 units of some items and any number that is donated is very helpful.
