This need is on behalf of grandmother who has custody of 2 grandchildren. The grandmother gained custody in 2021 when her daughter died of a drug overdose. At that time, the family became homeless, and the grandmother worked hard to regain housing, first in an income-based unit and then moving into a fair market rental. She also established and grew her own cleaning company. The family has been thriving for the last 4 years. The grandmother now has a new diagnosis of cancer (lymphoma) and is entering into an aggressive and complex course of treatment. She knows that she is facing at least 2 months of not being able to work. Her rent is $1,600. She has paid April and May rent, but is worried about paying June rent as her treatment has so severely impacted her ability to work. Her hours have been drastically cut. She does receive some social security income (survivor benefit) but it is not enough to keep up with all the bills. Compassion Coalition partnered with a member church to alleviate the burden for her utilities. At this time, we are looking for assistance with June 2025 rent in the amount of $1600.
