Story
I'm working with a mom and daughter (15) who are struggling to set up utilities at their new home. Mom recently had a long-term relationship end unexpectedly. As a result, she found herself needing to immediately find a place to live for herself and daughter. Daughter has type 1 diabetes and the family is having trouble controlling her glucose during this transition. The difficulty controlling the glucose is very serious. Daughter has been admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit multiple times recently. Mom and Daughter's healthcare and DHS team have come up with a plan to address the medical concerns. We're hopeful this plan will succeed in addressing these significant medical concerns. What they need now is some help getting back on their feet. Mom works full time as a cook, but money is tight. Mom has secured a new rental home, and she has the gas and electric turned on, but they're unable to get water service turned on until an old balance due of $500 is paid. We have a great deal of hope that our family will do a great job getting the glucose under control, but we need them to have water service turned on for the home to be truly safe. Our family is seeking assistance with their past due balance with the city of Tulsa so they can get a fresh start at their home.
