Since joining SFTSM, this mom has faced numerous challenges. She had to quit her job in Cottage Grove due to long hours and lack of transportation. Without hesitation, she found a new job in Sun Prairie and secured daycare for her son. Every day, she woke up at 4 a.m., walked two miles to drop him off, walked back home, then walked another two miles to work. At the end of the day, she repeated the process. When we asked why she didn’t ask for help, she said, “You’re helping everyone else in the house, and those other moms needed you more than I did.”
She had to stop working for nine months due to a high-risk pregnancy, battling diabetes, and the emotional toll of losing two babies before welcoming her healthy daughter on February 10th. Now, though she’s back to work, the lack of a vehicle remains a challenge. She has to wake up at 4 a.m. to take the bus, drop her children off at separate daycares, and walk a mile each way from the bus stops. Afterward, she takes the bus to her job and walks another two miles to work. This is unsustainable for a mom with two young children.
Despite these challenges, her determination shines through. She’s committed to making her job work, but having a vehicle would make a world of difference, easing her daily burden and allowing her to focus more on her children.
