Story
This is not a family we have helped before.
Read Mountain Middle Guidance Department reached out to me regarding services and support for a transient, homeless, student and their family. The student is intellectually disabled and the mother is on a fixed income, they currently are residing in the basement of a residence. The family fell behind on their electric (totaling 1232) and received a disconnection notice that it was to be disconnected 4/16/25. After pleading with the electric company, the mother was able to get the notice to 462, and pay the remainder on the 1st when she receives her check. The mother is at a loss and is worried about leaving her disabled child in the dark. I am working with her to find other resources such as electric assistance, housing assistance, etc.
They are located in Roanoke area. The mother is willing to work/repay donations, (although I discussed this with her). This could also be a family that could benefit from food boxes, etc.
