Story
FDSS is requesting funding to provide necessary services for MJ (12 year old male) at a residential summer program. Youth is currently residing in residential program (EH). Currently, MJ is not in a structured program and noted he just watches YouTube videos. MJ expressed interest in attending GMS Summer School but was not eligible due to passing his classes. There was a decrease in behaviors while in school. MJ has received 4 Serious Incident Reports during summer break. FDSS finds that MJ displays better behaviors and motivation when engaging in off campus activities. All parties agree that the Summer Program is in the best interest of MJ. MJ’s most recent Provider Report states that MJ would benefit from utilizing the services offered at EH to improve his social skills, interpersonal communication skills, conflict resolution skills, and peer relations. MJ demonstrates difficulty with developing appropriate peer relations. MJ recently engaged in a verbal altercation that resulted in his nose severally broken and in need of emergency surgery. MJ has expressed excitement to attend the Outdoor Program. Staff believes this excitement is a motivator for MJ. MJ will cooperate with program expectations to earn community outings and when on such outings, he will be expected to display age-appropriate decision making and peer interactions. FDSS strongly believes the Outdoor Summer Program will be motivation for MJ and is necessary to sustain his placement.
