I am working with a single mother of 7 children, with minimal support and money- who is in need of child proofing door handles. Some door alarms have already been provided to her, but she could benefit from the door handles as well- to keep her young children inside at all times- as some of her children are very young.

I am working with a single mother, of three children who has two jobs to support her family. She is in need of some bunk beds, for her daughters room. Any help that could be given to her, would be greatly appreciated.

My client is an 8-month-pregnant mother of an 11-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy. The baby is due in late June 2025. She recently separated from her husband, who experienced a mental health crisis after witnessing a traumatic event. Prior to relocating to the area in May 2025, her family lost everything during a tornado and hurricane in another state. A local shelter assisted in securing housing for them, but they currently have no clothing for themselves or the newborn, nor any essentials for the baby's arrival. Despite being 8 months pregnant, she is enrolled in online classes to pursue a career in medical billing and coding. She has visited local agencies seeking clothing for herself and her children but has been unable to find items that fit. I am requesting a $500 donation to purchase baby items and clothing for the family. This support will not only provide immediate relief but also strengthen the family's bond and well-being during this challenging time.

This request is for a single mother who lives in the heart of Lynchburg with her toddler. She had family living with her until recently when they moved out of state, leaving her alone to care for her child and keep up income through cleaning houses. Her child currently does not have an actual bed for sleeping. When presented with the possibility of getting a bed for her child, her face lit up like a Christmas tree that there are people who may be able to bring her son a bed. The Lynchburg Department of Social Services is requesting rental assistance on behalf of a single mother of four children who recently relocated to a new apartment in an effort to provide a safer and more suitable living environment for her family. Her previous residence was inadequate and did not meet the basic needs of her children. This move was essential for the well-being and stability of the household. However, the financial burden of securing and maintaining this new apartment has created a significant challenge. Rental assistance would provide critical support in helping her sustain this improved living situation and continue working toward long-term stability for her family while she is looking for work

A single mother is currently raising her three children and they need to move into a new house. The house that they are currently living in is infested with rats and the exterminator hired by the landlord was not able to resolve the rat issue. For the sake of their well-being, it is important that they move to a new home, but they need help with paying the security deposit. They qualify for Section 8 Housing assistance but the security deposit is not covered by the voucher. The security deposit is estimated to range from $1600-$1700.

A mother is trying to obtain birth certificates for her two children from West Virginia. Each certificate requires a $12.00 fee, and she has attempted to apply multiple times, but the applications have been rejected due to errors she may be making during the process. She reached for assistance with completing the application correctly and also asked if there might be any support available to cover the $24.00 total fee -- and perhaps someone to help her through the computer process. The birth certificates are needed to enroll the older child in Kindergarten and the younger in Head Start. Thank you so much for any help you can provide!!!

I am currently working with a family of 6 who is low income and moving to a new apartment. The family's previous residence was filled with black mold due to a water leakage, they do not have most of their items due to the mold. The family is asking for assistance to help support their family.

LCS staff received a call from a family who needs assistance with the balance on their electricity bill of $200. Mom has been keeping up the balance to the best of her ability but been taking funds from other things to avoid their electricity being cut off all together.

Mother just had a baby and was unable to pay her electric bill. She is unable to return to her home without electricity with a newborn baby. She is requesting assistance paying her electric bill.

A client of the Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center is currently facing a very difficult and unexpected season. She and her fiancé are doing their best to care for her 15-year-old child while also navigating the challenges of having a newborn baby boy in the NICU. The mother was diagnosed with placenta previa and placed on bedrest at 20 weeks. At 24 weeks, she was admitted to the hospital, where she remained until delivering their son at 30 weeks via emergency C-section. The baby is still in the NICU at this time.

The father works full-time but the circumstances and the early arrival of the baby changed all their plans and has left them financially behind—they are currently $950 behind on both their rent and power bill.

In addition to financial assistance, this family is also in need of essential baby supplies for their preemie son. We were able to give them some items, but they need so much more.

Items Needed: • Preemie boy clothes • Preemie diapers and wipes • Crib or bassinet • Crib/bassinet sheets • Blankets • Towels and washcloths • Burp cloths • Dr. Brown’s bottles with preemie nipples

Any support—whether financial or through baby item donations or practical support —would be a great encouragement and help to this family during this tender time. I listed the baby items as valued at $50 simply because many of these items can be gifted from a family that no longer needs some of these items and/or found at a consignment shop.

Hello! I'm happy to share that our client and her fiance were able to get fully caught up on their utility bill, so that portion of the original request has been removed. They currently have $550 set aside for April's rent, and thankfully their landlord has extended a generous grace period. (It was due on the 1st) They are in need of an additional $400 as soon as possible to cover the remainder of April's rent. Their May rent ($950) will be due on May 1st, but I'm hoping they will be given a grace period for May as well - having April fully paid will no doubt make a difference! As you can imagine, once someone falls behind, it can be very difficult to catch up. Any amount - big or small - makes a real difference for this couple as they work toward stability. I am currently working with a biological father and his paramour who have taken his two biological children full time. They already had two children in the home. The family is adjusting but they could really benefit to have bunk beds for the children, as right now they are sharing a bed. The children are twins, one is a boy and one is girl though and it would be ideal for them to have their own sleeping space. I am requesting bunk beds and bedding. She loves pink or purple for bedding and he is into the gamer theme. I am also requesting one dresser, for them to store their clothing in. This would be a huge help for the family!
