The Lynchburg Department of Social Services is requesting rental assistance on behalf of a single mother of four children who recently relocated to a new apartment in an effort to provide a safer and more suitable living environment for her family. Her previous residence was inadequate and did not meet the basic needs of her children. This move was essential for the well-being and stability of the household. However, the financial burden of securing and maintaining this new apartment has created a significant challenge. Rental assistance would provide critical support in helping her sustain this improved living situation and continue working toward long-term stability for her family while she is looking for work

I have had a mother reach out in need of assistance with digging her family out of hole. Mom and Dad have 4 children. Mom works full time, however Dad has been unable to stay employed since he was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease. Dad has not had trouble getting jobs, however he has been let go by every employer he has had, due to his healthcare needs. They have applied for disability, and they are currently waiting to hear back from Social Security.

The family has gotten behind on all of their bills, mainly their mortgage and car payment.
The mortgage company has been very kind to work with them, and their mortgage is now due on July 1st.
They are 3 months behind on the car payment, which is $350/month.

A single mother is currently raising her three children and they need to move into a new house. The house that they are currently living in is infested with rats and the exterminator hired by the landlord was not able to resolve the rat issue. For the sake of their well-being, it is important that they move to a new home, but they need help with paying the security deposit. They qualify for Section 8 Housing assistance but the security deposit is not covered by the voucher. The security deposit is estimated to range from $1600-$1700.

Client lives in Lynchburg with her 3 children. She is currently out of work until the end of May when she begins her job. Her husband is currently incarcerated. Although she starts her job next week, it will be a few weeks before she gets paid. She really needs assistance with her car and rental insurance, which is due on 5/20 or she will lose her insurance policy. She also could use some help with food! A mother of four, is at imminent risk of losing her housing due to a delinquent water utility account. A lease violation notice was issued on March 2, 2025, advising the tenant of the need to resolve the outstanding balance and restore water service. Per the terms outlined in the lease violation, if water service is not paid and fully restored by June 1, 2025, eviction proceedings will be initiated. The tenant has sought financial assistance through local organizations and was informed that a pledge would be made on her behalf. However, as of the current date, no pledge or payment has been applied to the account. • Amount pass due: $342.77 • May bill (due May 21, 2025): $114.47 • Total amount currently due: $457.24 Immediate intervention is necessary to prevent displacement and further hardship for this family. A mother is trying to obtain birth certificates for her two children from West Virginia. Each certificate requires a $12.00 fee, and she has attempted to apply multiple times, but the applications have been rejected due to errors she may be making during the process. She reached for assistance with completing the application correctly and also asked if there might be any support available to cover the $24.00 total fee -- and perhaps someone to help her through the computer process. The birth certificates are needed to enroll the older child in Kindergarten and the younger in Head Start. Thank you so much for any help you can provide!!!

Single mom with three children, ages 18, 16, and 2. The oldest two children have Autism, ADHD, and Intellectual/Developmental disability diagnoses, and therefore will continue to need her care into their adult years. Mom was diagnosed with Lupus two years ago and has been in and out of the hospital the last few months due to Lupus flare-ups. She is on disability because her Lupus has been so intense it prevents her from working. On top of that, she lost her biggest support system - her mom - to cancer two years ago. This mom is trying so hard to care for her two older sons' behavioral and emotional needs, as well as make sure her two year old has everything he needs as well. She is kind and loving and attentive to her children's needs, and has been through so much with her health and personal losses in life. It would mean so much to her if we could help her with sourcing a couch as she does not currently have any living room furniture. She also mentioned that she would love to have a set of curtains to cover her window for privacy, as the blinds are broken. She stated that she knows that a couch is a big expense and a lot to ask of anyone to provide, and has asked me to express her gratitude for any and all help.

I am working with a mother, father , and their newborn son who have just recently obtained their own apartment. The home is minimally furnished, and they are living off one income and unable to obtain the rest of their furniture. They only have sleeping arrangements for themselves and their son. Anything else that could be donated or gifted to them, they would greatly appreciate and would help them achieve stability.

I am working with a single mom and her 4 sons ages 19, 18, 15, and 12. This mom is working hard to take care of her boys but has recently experienced a death in her family, two house fires, and a serious car wreck. These events have all significantly affected her ability to work, their housing situation, family's functioning and resources. This family is currently living in a home without electricity and is having great difficulty securing it. The mom has done her research on the steps required to get electricity in her home, but due to being unemployed because of the wreck, she is lacking the finances to supply it. The overall cost for an electrician visit, invoice, permit, and electricity box will equal to around $200.

Also, this family is need of a queen sized bedframe and clothing for her sons. The sons sizes are as follows: 1st son: 36 or large in pants, large in shirts, size 9.5 in shoes 2nd son: 36 or large in pants, large in shirts, 9 in shoes 3rd son: 31/32 or large in pants, large in shirts, 9 in shoes 4th son: 31/21 or medium in pants, medium shirts, 9.5 shoes

A client in a DV shelter has been approved for housing through Miriam's House. She is starting over with her toddler and with nothing. She has the lease signed for the home, but is still staying at the shelter as she has no furniture. She is requesting any furniture or kitchen appliances such as kitchen table set, air fryer, microwave. She is open to many different types of household items.

A student is needing dental work pretty severly. The sibling just had dental work done a few months ago and the family can not afford to cover the dental work their second child is now needing.

The procedure was schedule, but the clinic would not proceed with it until the $100 from his previous appointment was paid for and the total for Phase 1 ($1,338.00) is paid. School personel has spoken with the dental office and they will not set the family up on a payment plan. Once phase 1 is done, they will then make an appointment for Phase 2, and again will not proceed with it until it is paid for ahead of time.

The proposed bill is $2,466.00 total.
