I am currently serving a Kinship/Adoptive mom caring for her 10-year-old son. Due to a recent injury, the mother is preparing for emergency surgery and needs temporary care for her 10-year-old son during her recovery (about one week). The surgical process starts July 3rd. He’s a bright and curious child with several diagnoses, including ADHD, High Functioning Autism, PTSD, DMDD, and Tourette’s. (There are more details, as he is a complex child, that will be shared with those who are considering hosting). He communicates well but may stutter or cough when explaining things, however, patience helps him feel heard and supported.

There have been past challenges with aggression toward his adoptive mom, but he just started intensive in-home counseling, which will continue through the week and can offer added support to the host family. He also attends a summer schooling program, that will provide support during weekdays.

The family would be grateful for a compassionate family or individual who can provide a calm, safe, and understanding environment while his mother recovers. I am working with a mother and father, who have a young child- and are struggling with lack of financial resources to replace the door to their home. They currently do not have a front door- it is entirely broken, and just props up on the frame at night but is not at all attached. It is a safety hazard to the family to not have a door to their home, putting them at risk of harm. Any assistance that could be provided to this family to either obtain a new door, or help them put the door in would be greatly appreciated.

I am working with a single mother of 7 children, with minimal support and money- who is in need of child proofing door handles. Some door alarms have already been provided to her, but she could benefit from the door handles as well- to keep her young children inside at all times- as some of her children are very young.

I am working with a single mother, of three children who has two jobs to support her family. She is in need of some bunk beds, for her daughters room. Any help that could be given to her, would be greatly appreciated.

The mother and 4 children were deemed to have been residing in poor/unsafe living conditions. The building inspector had deemed the residence to be an unsafe structure with multiple repairs needed before the family could reside in the home. As of 06/16/2025, the home was inspected, and the inspector granted the family permission to enter the home because some of the requirements had been completed. The children are in need of appropriate bedding. The beds were deemed unsafe. Bunk beds or twin beds are needed, new or used. The family would need mattresses and appropriate coverings for the beds. The home is also in need of a couch, new or gently used, for the living room area. The couch that is in the home is in poor condition and needs to be transported to the county dump. The mother has no transportation and relies on a friend or anyone that can assist herself and family.

I am working with a teenage girl, and her mother, who are currently experiencing homelessness and living at the shelter. The child does not have access to any electronics, and suffers from mental health disorders. She could benefit from having a kindle or a tablet of some sort to aide in her de- escilating/ calming when needed. She has no resources to aide her in this way currently.

This request is for a family CarePortal has recently helped in the BV area. Five-year-old non-verbal autistic child is on a trial home placement. Services are limited in the area and both the child and mother are utilizing some services that require a bit of travel. Finances are currently strained while they cannot get SNAP for the child, as he is still in foster care. The family paid for travel weekly for 9 months for visitation and parenting courses, which caused the family a financial deficit. The mother cannot work due to the child's high level of needs which prevents him from being successful in a daycare setting. The father works fulltime, but is responsible for covering all the bills, which he does. The child's trial home placement will continue for approximately 3 more months, following which the family will be able to receive benefits for the child. The family is in need of assistance with gas cards to assist with transportation, pull-ups, and groceries. The mother continues to work on toilet training and has been utilizing food banks, but the child is unwilling to eat most foods provided by the food bank. Pull-ups needed are children size XL.

We are seeking rental assistance and car repairs for a Mom who is doing anything and everything she can to provide a safe and stable home for her children. Mom recently encountered a setback when the only vehicle broke down, leaving them unable or having to walk to get to work, medical appointments, and transport kids to school and daycare. Despite moms best efforts to maintain financial stability, the unexpected cost of having the vehicle diagnosed and repaired is beyond the Moms means. Without the vehicle, this could result in Mom and boyfriend falling further behind on bills and medical appointments. We are asking for help with getting the care diagnosed and repaired which is an unknown cost, which is why the request will show $10. We are also seeking help with paying rent for this family as they have fallen behind a month due to having to miss work. Having both of these requests filled will help this family with five children get back on track and on their feet.

Rent has been paid!

This family is living in a 2 bedroom trailer. The trailer needs some renovating done to the back bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom in the back needs new flooring and panels taken down and hauled away. This family is doing their best to make due with what they have in this situation and we would just like to fix this back bedroom so they have that to use.

This family is need of an electric bill paid. They have been given a cutoff notice and the bill is $1100.

Family discovered mold in the foundation of the house, impacting the health and wellness of those residing. Cost of mold remediation and installing drainage (sump pump) is far beyond the family's financial means. The costs are far greater than listed but every bit helps.

Mom lost her job in early November due to kids illnesses, she got a new job later in November but lost that job also due to kids illnesses. She has struggled to make car, electric, and rent payments since losing her job. She has been delivering with DoorDash to obtain income. She is overdue on her car payments for the month of April and May and she needs her car to continue to DoorDash until she obtains another job. The lender reached out to her because the payments were due on May 23rd. She has reached out to friends, family, and other agencies and has received some support for her other needs, but still cannot make the car payment. She is in need of $792.00 for her car payment. She is working with a Career Navigator at Virginia Career Works and plans to complete CNA training this summer so she can obtain self-sufficient employment, but she needs transportation to be able to accomplish this goal.
