Family stepped up to take in a child in foster care so that he can remain in his school district and Graduate. The youth will be turning 18 on 5/2/25 and is a graduating senior. This family initially agreed to take the child into their home under the impression that the bio-mother would help support financially in the form of additional groceries and day-to-day essential items. When the child was placed in the home the bio mother disappeared and has not engaged in any contact with the Department or the Fictive Kin placement. Child was placed in this home on 4/15/25 and will need to stay until he is able to leave care on his 18th birthday (5/2/25). We are asking for grocery cards, or various gifts cards to assist the family through the end of May.

Hello! We need your help! We serve a single foster mother who recently welcomed two girls into her care. Unfortunately, there has been a delay in the disbursement of state scholarship funds, which has impacted her ability to pay for daycare, and one of the girls has a few more weeks before she is of the age to be able to attend daycare. While waiting for the funds, the foster mom requested a waiver to allow her to use financial support to pay her biological daughter to care for the girls during the day while she works. Unfortunately, her request was denied. Financial support during this waiting period would greatly alleviate some of her stress as she navigates being a single working mother to two young girls who require childcare during the day. However, the mother faces challenges, as her health issues prevent her from working, leaving her dependent on SSI income. Recently, it has come to light that the 8-year-old boy is in urgent need of clothing and shoes to ensure both comfort and confidence as he navigates the world. DFCS is asking for assistance with one of our families. After 16 years of abuse, the mother has finally gained the courage and support to press charges against the father of her children after he choked her and her daughter. The mother lives with her 3 minor children. The mother had her leg amputated in 2024 due to issues with diabetes and has not had employment or disability benefits since. She has just obtained a prosthetic leg last week and once she obtains a vehicle and strengthens her ability to walk, will find employment. The abusive father did not allow her to work for a period of time, so she does not have savings to support herself or her children. The department is working on a long term solution but the mother needs assistance as soon as possible to bridge the gap. The mother has a doctor appt. Thursday 04/24 for a follow up for her prosthetic and she and her children have PCP appointments the following week, 04/28, that she will need to utilize transportation assistance to be present for. The immediate need is an Uber card. She will need ongoing support until she is stabilized.

I am currently working with a single mother on my caseload who is in urgent need of rental assistance. She is pregnant with a due date in June, and has recently been laid off from her job. Although she has secured rent for the month of May, she will not be able to cover June’s rent due to her upcoming delivery and loss of income.

This mother is raising two children, a 16-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son, and is doing her best to prepare for the arrival of her newborn while managing the household on her own. With no current income and a baby expected in early June, she is facing significant financial strain.
