We have a 17 year old female who entered care this year. Currently, she has overcome certain obstacles and is residing in a transitional living house in Missouri. This youth has completed her Missouri Options Exam with flying colors. This youth has had issues attending and participating in school prior to coming into care. While in care, she has been completing individual therapy once a week and participating in visitation with her parents. She is asking for her graduation cap, gown, tassel and senior hoodie and sweatpants. These items are important to the youth as she did successfully complete her high school education and is now working towards her ACT testing. The package for the cap, gown, tassel, sweatpants, and hoodie is about 121.35 with a handling fee of 9.95. Any help that can be provided is appreciated.

A mother and her four children are in need of a kitchen table. They are currently eating on the floor and would love to have a place to sit and eat together. Receiving a table to eat at would provide them with not only a place to eat but would help with the cleanliness of the home. This table would also be an area where the children can complete their homework and do other important tasks.

DCCCA is working with a homeless family who have been living in a hotel. The mother has recently started working, DCCCA has helped the family obtain childcare, transportation for school, and is working to help with housing. The mom's mother's health is declining and is not expected to live much long so the mom has not been able to work this week or last between the holiday and being with her mother. Because of this the family is $350 short to pay the December hotel rent on Saturday (12/3). If you can help cover all or a portion of this need for the family it will allow them to continue to have a stable place to live while DCCCA continues to work with the family to secure more permanent housing and allow the mom to spend this week with her mother and not worry about working or losing their place to stay.
A single mother taking care of her two older sons is in need of transportation help. This mothers only vehicle to get to work and the children to school has broken down needing a couple of repairs. This would help the young mother as she is needing to get back and forth to work, and take her children to school.
A 13-year-old girl, who has recently been placed with her older sister is in need of a few items. Her older sister has 2 children of her own but has now also taken in her younger sister & is in need of help with groceries. She has been running out of food/snacks for the children before the end of the month, now that she has an extra mouth to feed. A gift card to a grocery store or if someone could drop groceries off to the family would be most helpful. The family is without transportation at the moment, and it would be difficult to get to a food pantry during the allotted times. The older sister works from home, so she is home all day if someone is able to drop groceries off to them. The teen is also in need of under garments (Bras, underwear) & personal hygiene items. If you are able to help with this need or know of someone that has resources for these items, it would be greatly appreciated.

A caregiver needs help keeping her phone line turned on to remain in touch with her children while at work. Recently, one of her children has been struggling with some behaviors that require extra supervision. She had to call off work several times to remain with her child and has fallen behind on bills. Now she is able to return to work, but she needs to prioritize her phone so her child or the adult who is supervising can always reach her. Helping meet this request will help a caregiver be able to support her child and keep the family safe.
A grandmother is placement for her infant granddaughter who is starting to crawl. The grandmother is in need of a baby gate for the top of her stairs to ensure the baby's safety and to maintain placement. A gate that attaches to the wall is preferred so that her 2-year-old brother is unable to push through the gate. Please see link for example of need. Thank you!
A single mom of 6 has stopped receiving child support payments as the father of the children has lost his job. She has been unable to make her car payments and only has $1500 left on the loan. She has been working so hard to provide for her children, but has started struggling with the loss of child support. The payments will help to sercure her vehicle for her and prevent her from losing her only vehicle.

DCCCA Family Preservation is hosting our 3rd Annual Christmas Party for the at-risk families we serve. This event gives families the opportunity to step away from their stressful life events, even for just a short while, to have a joyful evening full of fun, food, and festivities. This event can help form positive core memories for vulnerable children -- many who experience extreme poverty and would love nothing more than some bonding time with their parents to play games, have a nice meal, sing and even laugh together. DCCCA is a nonprofit organization; therefore, we rely on the generosity of the community to help fund our events. Donated funds will help us purchase the food, paper goods, and other essential items. If you are able, please consider helping us bring smiles and laughter to the faces of many children as we share with them the magic and joy of Christmas. Thank you for all you do for the community! Updated on November 28, 2022 by an Agency Worker We could still use the help to fund the Christmas party for the families we serve. Thank you for your consideration.

Our clinic is currently assisting a pregnant mother who is going through a divorce and starting over after 16 years. She has one son that is 15 and with her part time - he is in need of a bed with bedding so he can come stay with her. She is currently sleeping on a bare twin mattress with a blanket at the moment so she is in need of bedding as well. She has nothing in her apartment other than the twin mattress so we are asking for a couch as well as some dishes she could use. She is currently working two jobs and we are assisting her with signing up for the necessary government support programs. Thank you!

I have a young fun loving male who is currently autistic, nonverbal and housed at a medical facility in the greater Kansas City Missouri area and he has been there for some time due to his mother also being chronically ill and she can not meet any of his medical, mental, or physical needs. She had to give care of him over to Children's Division to provide proper care and custody of him as she realized she is physically unable. This young man is currently in need of clothing such as sweat clothes than he can wear in the facility in which he is housed. He is in desperate need of sweat pants and sweat shirts in the size of Large. Underclothing is also a necessity in this request. The items requested will help get this young man through the winter as the weather is changing and wearing basketball shorts and t-shirts is becoming a not so viable option. Updated on December 01, 2022 by an Agency Worker This is very much a need for this sweet boy; especially as it is getting colder!

The family is in need of two tires for their car. They have wires coming out of two of their tires and have not gotten tires in a few years due to being short of funds. They recently have been able to start a new job that requires them to drive a lot more than they have been. So we are asking for tires for the family. The family has a Nissan Sentra 2012 and need a 205/55R16. They have priced a used tire and it would be about 50.00 each but new tires might be safer for the family as they are driving on the highway now. The price of two new tires would be about 140.00 for two at Discount Tires.

Grandma is the caregiver for the children in the family. She is living off of her social security and cannot afford to buy 2 new tires for her 2004 CRV. She indicated that her car also has an oil leak. Grandma does not have disposable income and with the holidays coming up it's even harder to afford all that they need.
Helping this family with tires and possibly with the oil leak will help them to have an easier and less stressful holiday season.
The car leak estimate is from a google search, it is not known what the cost would be to look into a repair. Tires would be closer to that $100 a piece number. Her car currently has Pirelli tires.

A family of a single mom of 5 has been homeless since July after being told they would be removed from the apartment due to the property management’s stipulation of not having more than 2 persons per room, and they were residing in a 2 bedroom apartment. The younger two children (17 and 12) have been residing at friend’s house’s to remain in their same schools, Mom and the three younger children, ages 8 and below, have been staying with Mom’s sister when she has her custodial time, and the children stay with their bio-dad on his custodial time, in which Mom sometimes stays in her vehicle. Mom works full time but has been struggling to pay a previous Evergy bill, which was in her name only and not her ex-husband and has prevented her from getting a place of her own. Mom has attempted to get relief with the LiHeap program but has misplaced SSN cards for the children due to being homeless, which are required for the application. She has gotten it down to $538, but with having to pay for her storage unit that houses the family’s belongings and trying to pay down her car payment that her ex-husband had said he would pay for child support payments but has failed to do so for the past 3 months, it has been an increasing struggle. Mom is hoping to reunite with all her children in a home of their own, but can’t due to the evergy and car payment bills having a negative effect on her credit.

A family with 3 children is in need of assistance to pay for the father's surgery, so that they don't fall behind on rent. The father is the only source of income for the family, so recovering from surgery will also impact the family's income and ability to pay bills.
We responded to a CarePortal request for this family back in September. Bio family had just reintegrated with their two female children ages 5 and 4 and were needing help with rent and two dressers. We were able to connect on both of the needs and met this sweet family in person to deliver the items. Soon after, a car battery installation was needed and before we even had a chance to have one of our volunteers get over there to help, dad had already taken care of it himself. They have a strong desire to be independent.
We have been staying in touch with them and they recently let us know that the vehicle had broken down for good. Thankfully, they have another car they can use if the past due payment on it is made. They are able to afford the monthly payments on their own, they just need help getting caught up. Any amount is appreciated and will help get them closer to self-sufficiency again.
As a previous worker at Children's Division I know first hand the stress and hard work these workers go through. I would love to spread some love to the local Children's Division office downtown KC by supplying them with an Ice Maker. This seem like a small thing but they have been needing an ice maker since I was there 2 1/2 years ago and even before then. They have an older fridge that they have some ice trays in the freezer but that is not enough for everyone to add some ice to their beverages. An Ice maker would be a huge blessing to these workers as they can grab ice and water on their way to their next visit. They could grab ice for the soda donated to them from churches.
I have done some research on ice makers and have found a few that could work for their break room space. I am asking $500 for the ice maker and an additional $500 to help cheer up their break room adding new chairs, tables and items to make it feel more inviting and comfortable.
These items could go a long way for these workers and just in time for the hot days coming up! Thank you!
A single mom with an 8 year-old boy and 9 year-old girl coming out of homelessness after losing disability benefits and are in major need of funding for utility bills. Dad is an addict and not in the picture and uncle on dad's side is helping them get stable. They are staying in an empty house owned by a relative of the uncle and he is paying their rent for now but they are living with no furniture, water or electricity. There are past due balances and activation fees on the electric and water that need to be paid in order for them to be turned on, totaling almost $1500, but any amount helps! We are hoping the CarePortal community can contribute some funds to help get the utilities turned on for this family.
