These children have been placed out of the home in Roanoke City to a home in Vinton. This is still considered a Roanoke City DSS case.
This case deals with four children being removed from their parents home. Two were placed with an aunt and the other two are now in their second placement home with the great grandmother. The children have been experiencing the trauma associated with being the child of addicts for several years now. This is the first time they've been placed outside of the home. Even though they are with family they greatly miss their parents.
The great grandmother is requesting size five diapers and wipes. The little boy is requesting a "Josh Plushie" for Christmas and the little girl is requesting a Magic Mixie Lamp. These may be the only gifts they receive for Christmas. Mom and dad are struggling financially in their addiction and the great grandmother is on a fixed income.

Married couple with two young children (one is special needs) just lost a baby three hours after birth due to undetected health issue. They had to divert December rent to burial expenses of $4,000 (to add to what was donated). Mom is facing two additional surgeries this month. Both typically work full-time and need very little support, but they could use help with just half of their rent as they grieve and prepare to transition back to work. The total rent is $1,200. They have $600 to put toward the rent. They requested aid at a local agency and were denied as they received help with their electric bill last May.

A 17-year-old single mother is in need of help and support. She has very little support as it only her, her mother, and her child. her mother is also a single parent. The child, a 12-month-old female, is her main priority, leaving hers last. She currently is a student at Forrest Park Academy. She is trying to maintain her schoolwork while caring for her child. She has limited transportation as she as to take Ubers to her grandmothers to drop off the child & then to school. The mother of the 17-year-old does not drive as she does not have a license, so transportation within the family is very scarce. This mom is in need of a community and support.

This family is trying to set up separate residences for both parents. Father's work schedule is fluid. Mother has a lot of appointments. The parents and babysitter have to share a car seat. Due to the frequency at which the caregivers exchange baby, they could use another car seat. This would cut down on time and effort, which will help decrease stress on caregivers and baby.

Single mom needs furniture before her son can be released from a major university hospital at which he's scheduled for a bone marrow transplant. He suffers a rare genetic immunodeficiency disease. The boy's father refinanced the house to provide new flooring (sterile environment) but the family has no funds left for furniture. All the old furniture had to be thrown away due to risk of dust, dander and mold. All furniture must now be hard-surface and able to be sterilized. They need a desk, a desk chair, a recliner, end tables, a coffee table and a corner TV stand. All used furniture has to come from a smoke-free, pet-free home and not mildewed due to risk of infection for the boy.

I had posted on FB and here are 3 responses I have received so far. 1) My daughter has a changing table used twice to donate and is looking through her stuff for more. How do I get these to the young lady?
2) My name is Michael Smith I am with Covered Chaplaincy and we support our first responders and the community of Bedford. I wanted to see how I could help this young lady with the triplets. Is there any current need she has left and in great need of?
3)I have a used infant car seat and 2 bases for it
4)have you contacted BRPC Friends or Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center? Maybe you could post it in the Lynchburg Mom, Lynchburg Moms Supporting Moms, Lynchburg Moms 🙂groups too.

A family is seeking a relationship with a local church as well as assistance with bed bugs. There are two children within the home that are under 18 and both are males. The mother stated that the family has had bedbugs for a week, that she knows of, and has killed one crawling on a pillow and found one on one of her children. The mother stated that she has been spraying bedbug spray on the couch, but is worried as she knows they can live within walls and cracks.
The mother has reached out to seven community resources, however has not had any communication or replies.
The total below is an estimate as the family has not been able to call professionals as they need financial assistance

Single mother has had two children removed from her care previously due to mistakes in her past but has a newborn and a chance to right her wrongs. There are no concerns with the safety of the newborn in her care currently and mother has everything she needs for the child. Mom moved into a new apartment which has a bed for her but nothing else. She is requesting help getting the basic furniture with a couch, tv stand, dining room table, and at least two dressers. We are also requesting a gift card for food and gas to help her through until she can get her girl into daycare at 6weeks and go back to work. This is the first time she has had her feet underneath her and is excited to be moving forward. Please help ensure she can do so comfortably with her littlest blessing!

I am currently working with a single mother of six children. The mother herself was in foster care as a child. She has lost her transportation due to the transmission going out on her vehicle, and the only available option is to call her former foster mother whenever she or the kids need a ride somewhere. The kids have access to the school bus but if one or more of them miss the bus on a day then mom has no way to get them to school. The school tries to provide transportation as best they can for the kids. Additionally, for any appointments, etc. the mother has no means for transportation. This request is to see if anyone out there might have a spare vehicle they aren't using that they could donate to this family. If not, then possibly a donation towards buying a car or repairing the old car if that is possible.
