Our Care Coordinator presented this request after meeting with her client. She stated that this single mom of 4 is need of a crib for her baby girl who is 2 months old. She is not working currently, but is trying to find a job and maintain. Her daughter is growing out of basinett and stated that this was a major need for her. (Crib and matress)

Father of 2 young boys ages 5 and 4. Mom has been incarcerated and will be released from halfway house in June. Agency became involved due to dirty home, and dad tested positive for Meth. Dad has begun intensive outpatient treatment and is doing very well. He has had all negative drug screens and participates in group and individual counseling. This is an in-home safety plan with a caregiver. Dad is in the home. Dad and caregiver are working very hard on getting the home clean. Agency provided beds for both boys. They have a stove but only one burner works and the oven only broils-it does not bake. A working stove would be very helpful for cooking for the family. This does not have to be a brand new stove. A used stove in good condition would be fine.

Mom who was using substances has been working to maintain sobriety. She went into inpatient treatment and completed programming there. She has now returned to Springfield. She began by living with a cousin. She had her youngest child with her (2-year-old son). Since returning she is doing intensive outpatient treatment. She obtained employment at the hospital, and is working toward self-sufficiency. Her ex-husband had their 3 daughters but she is now able to have them home with her. She had to pay a deposit and 1st month's rent. She needs an electric stove, refrigerator, and sofa. They do not have to be new, she is fine with used. She has borrowed a tiny fridge and has a crock pot and 2 burner cook top. A stove, fridge, and sofa would be very helpful for her to begin her new life with her children. AGAIN- These can be used appliances and sofa. Thank you!

A child recently reunified with her biological daughter. He had a bed for her but is a too small for her. He is working very hard to take care of her and meet all of her needs but he is on a fixed income and receives disability and is unable to work. The family is in a good place minus the situation with the bed.

A resilient family of five in our community has just secured housing after being evicted. They spent time in a hotel while searching, and now, with great determination and strength, they’ve found a new place to call home. The father is working hard to support his family, but with high rent and the cost of living, they’re facing the heavy burden of starting over with very little. They’re in need of essential furnishings to help make this space a true home. Specifically, they need 3 beds (a bunk bed would be wonderful), a couch, and basic kitchen supplies. We hope to ease their transition and give them the chance to focus on settling in—without having to use their limited income on furniture. This family has already overcome so much. I am working with a single mother of seven kids who is in need of beds for her children. The bed frames she had for the children broke. She is employed but can only make her money go so far with seven kids. This will allow the children to remain with their mother and not enter foster care.

A Thirteen-year-old boy living with his mother and adult brother requires a bed and bedding. The child is currently sleeping on an air mattress or a couch. Mother has been working at Domino's Pizza and diligently working to improve their living environment, but has not been able to put enough money together to purchase a bed. The bedroom would accommodate a full-size bed. Fulfilling this need would allow the child a comfortable space and a good night's sleep in his own bed. A single father of two is in need of a birth certificate (cost $25 at local Health Dept.) for him to obtain a state ID so he can apply for employment and other community services and food pantries. He also is in need of a electric stove, due to his stove only having 1 burner that works, and the oven no longer works. This will help with the family to prepare meals to ensure the kids are fed well. The children are in need of clothing and shoes. 5-year-old boy wears a 5t or size xs/5. His shoe size is 10c. Then a 3-year-old, size 4t clothing and shoes 9c. This support for the family will help maintain the household and ensure the children's basic needs are met.

Haitian family has secured new apartment but lacks furniture! She is more than happy to receive used items!

This is a family of 4. Mother is single and has a single income to meet the needs of the children. SW went out to the home to complete a walkthrough and found missing pieces of drywall in the children's rooms. One of the rooms has an outlet that is exposed with insulation that is a safety concern. Mother is need of assistance for repairs to the drywall and is not aware of how to fix this on her own and cannot afford to hire someone to help.

Single mother of three children. Mother lives in a trailer that she recently purchased. Mother works full time as a nurse aide at a nursing home. Mother needs assistance with the purchase and installation of a water heater. Currently the family is going to the neighbors home to take hot showers, boiling water on the stove to do dishes, and going to the neighbors to wash some of their clothing.

​I​ am pleased to connect you with a ​mother and 2 children. Just this year, the family ​was on the Shelter waiting list, ​sold a car to buy a camper to live in, and​ then has been paying to stay at the Drake Mote​l. The mother left a domestic violence situation in Huber Heights. She came to Springfield to seek ​safety and new opportunities for her and the children. When she arrived in Springfield​, we paid for her and the children to stay at a hotel. ​This mother has gained steady employment, and she is getting everything back on track after a connection with Service Coordination. Her car broke down not too long ago and she was not able to work for a little while, but she is back on track now with a "new to her" car.

I believe above all the connection​s to service​s has helped this mother get back on her feet. The mother has had to jump through many hoops due to her past criminal activity and working through recover​y. But she has now found housing, and has already moved in. In order to not stress her financial situation, she has reluctantly asked for help in getting items for her new home.

​I​ am hopeful that keeping this housing and having stability ​will change things for her ​and her children. She ​is the poster parent of how to get yourself out of a bad situation and change things for your future! I admire her, and when you meet her you will understand how hard it was to turn things around. But she did it!
