DO SOMETHING (Marion County)

A mother, twin babies, and a five-year-old boy are rebuilding their lives at Community Action Stops Abuse (CASA) Marion, the certified domestic violence center in Marion County. After fleeing abuse, the family is left without clothing that fits and could use the following items:

-Shirts, pants, undergarments, socks, and a pair of shoes (for a boy who wears size seven in clothes; his shoe size is 1.5 or, if that's not available, 1) -Shirts, pants, and shoes for twin babies who are size 12 months

A gift of clothing will help the family leave the shelter with the resources that they need to survive. Clothing this family is a simple act that will remind them that the community cares about keeping them safe.

Recently these 3 siblings (12, 10, & 7-year-old males) were placed in the care of a relative. Presently, the relative placement has one full-sized bed and were able to secure a twin bunk bed frame, but are still in need of 2 twin mattresses, along with twin bedding / sheets. This will benefit the children in providing safe and appropriate sleep, while assisting the relatives with maintaining a stable placement.

The relative caregivers are both disabled with fixed income and are unable to afford to buy their nephew a bed. Child’s current twin bed is a mattress set only, laying on the floor, and is very worn out. They live in a singlewide mobile home that is being renovated but ran out of funds to complete the renovation due to their very serious health issues. They have had the child in their care for approximately 6 years. These caregivers appreciate any help with getting a twin bed frame and mattress for their 17-year-old male nephew.

The child is in a non-relative placement and is moving forward with adoptions. This is to assist the caregiver which has already done a lot of out of pocket for the child, and we want to try and save this placement for the baby. The child is sleeping in a pack and play, which he has outgrown.

A mother and her three school aged children reside in a manufactured home that was passed down to her from her parents. The flooring in the home is missing in some areas and is in need of repair in others. The children lost their father tragically over 2 years ago. She has recently taken in her adult son and his girlfriend as well.

A resilient mother has overcome incredible challenges. After battling addiction, she has turned her life around. She has been sober, employed at a local gas station for six months, and recently reunited with her two children—a 13-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy. She has been diligently working toward securing stable housing, and she’s finally moving into her very own place on the 31st of this month. However, she does not have any beds for herself or her children. She needs our help as she works to keep her family together.

A young man recently moved back home to live with his mother. He has a job and works hard, and he currently striving toward regaining his independence. Right now, he's sleeping on the floor. This is a difficult situation because he works nights and drives an hour one way to get to work. A bed would help him get adequate rest to continue to effectively work toward his goals.
