The Department is working with a family who is in need of a small used push lawn mower for their lawn. The family has limited income and the landlord does not provide mowing services.

A student and his parents are evicted from their home effective April 30, 2025. The present plan for the student is to stay with his brother while parents live in their car. Parents may be able to stay at a nearby campsite a couple of days a week to have access to showers and other facilities. Assistance with non-perishable food items and some cold food items that can be kept in a small cooler is needed. Additional assistance with a couple of nights each week in a local hotel (preferably the one in Independence) will be helpful so parents can have access to basic necessities, and the mother can get to work in town. The family is on a waiting list for a local apartment in in the Independence town area. The anticipated availability is within a couple of weeks. The father's cell phone will be turned back on April 30th as he is searching for employment.

The family is currently served as a parental placement in an effort to prevent the child from entering foster care. The family is limited in income and has filed for custody. The family is having financial hardship while adjusting to the additional child in their household. We are requesting funding for a $300 dollar gift card to help the family purchase groceries. If this need is met, then it will assist in giving the family time to financially adjust to the additional household member and court expense.

Mom and children are located here in Marion, and mother is a single mom of 4 children that are in her care. Mom escaped a domestic violence situation and while going through that she lost her job but has hopes of returning to work at a new job May 12,2025 but due to having to have an emergency surgery she may not get to start her job right away. She is in need of financial assistance with rent, car payment, insurance, and utilities.

This family has recently lost support of one parent and they have struggled to make ends meet. There is a child in this family that has sensory issues with food, and they request assistance in the form of grocery gift cards so that they may choose foods the child will eat. There are 3 children and one parent in this household, and they have a need for assistance with groceries. This will help them as they adjust to the changes in their financial situation and family arrangement in the household.

We have a family in need. The mother recently had a child who has been in the NICU at Niswonger's Children's Hospital for 47 days. Mom tries to visit her infant daily but the cost of gas is becoming problematic. In addition, once discharged, the child is being referred to a Pediatric Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist in the Tennessee area and will continue to have traveling expenses. I am requesting gas cards and food cards for the family to ease the burden of this commute. They are very appreciative of any help that can be given during this stressful time.

Family is in need of a full sized mattress and bedframe to provide a bed for a mother who has been sleeping on an air mattress for years. Bedframe needs to be sturdy to support an adult and due to limited space, it can be a frame only, no headboard or footboard needed.

Kinship placement is requesting black bunk beds with a trundle bed, two twin mattresses and a chest of drawers to help provide adequate sleeping arrangements for girl sharing a room. Family has taken in a friend's daughter to prevent her from entering childcare, and due to kinship placement's home, the teenage girls are having to share a room.

This family has recently lost the help and support of the father, and this has put great financial strain on them. They need assistance in paying their utility bill which is due to be paid 4/25/25.

The Department is working with a biological mother to a child in foster care. Child came into foster care, at no fault of the mother, due to death of a relative who had custody. The mother and her husband own their home and have limited resources. The family has been renovating a room in their basement for this young man (age 16) to come home to. The room is just in need of new carpet. This is the only thing needed to complete The Department is requesting any help that can be provided.

This family is located In Marion. The mother is a single mother with a baby girl due in July. She has a six-year-old son that has behavioral issues that she is struggling to maintain but is getting supports from the department to help her navigate this. She is unable to work due to her son's issues. She is in need of ALL things for a baby girl. Things such as cloths, bottles, crib, stroller, diapers.etc.

This family is located in Smyth County. The grandmother has custody of her Grandkids and has had for 10+years. She had sewer problems, that took a significant amount of money probably close to $700.00 The funds came from her tax return that she was hoping to be able to use for a payment on a handicap van, as one of the children are wheelchair bound. The Grandmother is either looking for a handicap van, or monetary donations to try to get one, to better care for her grandchild.
