CarePortal Request: Help unite Four Sisters—Ages 12, 11, 9, and 7—with Their Mother

Due to a confirmed investigation involving abuse and inappropriate discipline, the father was permanently removed from the home. In response, the mother has taken courageous and proactive steps to create a safe, nurturing environment—committed to protecting her daughters and keeping her family together.

To keep the girls safely in home, the family must meet basic housing and care standards. They are urgently in need of essential household items to create a clean, stable, and dignified living space for the children.

4 twin mattresses

4 bedding sets (pillows, sheets, comforters)

4 bath towels and 4face cloths (1 set per child)

Laundry detergent and baskets

Storage containers for clothing and personal belongings

These items will help transform the home into a safe place for healing and growth—and allow the sisters to remain together under their mother’s care.

The client is a 14-year-old female who was removed from her parents at the age of 9, due to neglect (substance abuse/domestic violence) by the mother and her significant other. Child’s bio-father passed away when she was 3. The child was placed in a stable foster home where she remains to date. Mother’s reunification svcs have been terminated; the child is likely to remain in foster care as she does not wish to be adopted or placed in legal guardianship.

The foster parents report the child is a pleasure to have in their home – she is respectful and listens well. The child recently completed 7th grade and admitted she spends much of her time alone in her room. To address/mitigate isolative behaviors, we investigated her interests. This child is quite amazing and is talented in the arts. She enjoys reading, drawing, and is interested in learning to play the flute and violin. Respectfully, we would like to request the following:

• Art Supplies – graphite pencils, sketchbooks, or a gift card to Target, Walmart, or an arts supply store so she can purchase art supplies.
• Gift card to a bookstore such as Barnes and Noble to buy books for summer reading.
• Donation of a gently used flute and/or violin so she can join the school band or take music lessons. Thank you for your consideration in assisting with the requested items. Obtaining these items will help prevent isolative behaviors, increase social integration and self-confidence, and develop her artistic skills.

An 11 year old boy has recently returned to his mother's care after an out of home placement. The family is trying to normalize life again with the changes and the child would like to attend a summer camp program. This summer camp is a good opportunity for the child to be able to learn new things and broaden his knowledge in STEM. Each day has a different activity/theme such as drones, 3D printing, and robotics. The family currently does not have the extra funds to pay for the camp and would like to request any assistance that could be possible. The camp sessions are held twice a week and there are two sessions per day. The cost is $20 per session and they are offered in the AM or PM. The child would love to attend all 4 days in July which would cost a total of $80. Any amount would be helpful, even if only one session is covered. The information flier notes that if a child registers for all 4 sessions in a month, they can receive a discount. The cost could be paid directly to the camp.

The family consists of 2 children (1-female/12yo and 1-male/14yo) and 1 adult female. The family is currently homeless and staying in a shelter. The mother has left a very dangerous domestic violence situation and went through a bad divorce. She is requesting any assistance with bus passes and gift cards so that she can purchase the children and herself some clothing. The family is actively trying to recollect their lives and need bus passes to get around to doctor appointments and such. anything helps.

This young man is a junior in high school. The student lives between his parents house and grandparents house. His grandmother has been experiencing some health challenges since that end of last year and this has taken a noticeable on this young man. The added cost of medical expenses for grandmother has left nothing to go towards extra curricular activities. As a result the student has begun to sell snack items at school to help support himself. This young man would benefit greatly by attending summer camp and be encouraged in his pursuit of high school graduation. This opportunity would be a light at the end of a very dark for this young man and serve as a reminder that hard work pays off not just in the future but now.

This request is on behalf of a 17 year old high school student. This student is the oldest of 4 siblings and currently lives with their mother and father. The mother is not involved in the student's life and leaves the majority of the day to day responsibility to the father to care for and provide for the student and his younger siblings. Student does well in school and has been prioritizing his grades and school work. The student has expressed interest in going to summer camp but does not have the funds to attend. Attending summer camp would give the student much needed encouragement to continue to work hard towards his future goal of playing football at the college level.

I am submitting this request on behalf of a high school female with special needs. The family recently moved from out of state and was staying at a local shelter before being placed in permanent housing. The family consist of mother, father and 4 children. All the children have varying disabilities. Currently mother is the only income earner for the family. This young lady would greatly benefit from attending summer camp where she can participate in age appropriate activities with her peers and get specialized support from a camp counselor. This will also allow for the mother and father to have a reprieve while they attend to the needs of the other children.

The father of a family of five suddenly passed away without any life insurance. The family is not only mourning this profound loss but also finds itself in a financial crisis. In addition to funeral expenses, their one working vehicle is experiencing electrical issues and cannot be used until it is repaired. They also need to replace their oven.

This request is on behalf of a 17 year old male high school student. December 2024 the student was hospitalized for mental health issues. Student was released into his mother's custody 4 days after being admitted to the hospital. Once at home student was met with mixed reactions about the experience from various family members and was told that he was weak and needed to toughen up. Despite the lack of moral support the student has began to make progress in the right direction with the help of weekly therapy sessions and mentoring from the youth pastor at Crenshaw Christian Center. Attending summer camp would give this student a much needed break from his home life and an opportunity to find much needed support and encouragement among his peers. This young man has attended various college tours and wants to pursue occupational therapy upon high school graduation.
