The family recently endured a significant loss of the mother’s grandfather, the child’s maternal great-grandfather served as the father figure to all and was the mother’s advocate and primary source of support. The mother has managed to persist and navigate challenges during her time of grief. The mother is a single parent with 3 children ages 11, 3 and 9 months. The mother still has custody of all children however the11-year-old and 3 year-old are temporarily residing with relatives as mother and the baby currently reside at an in-patient treatment program. I am requesting an electric guitar for the 11 year old as well as safety items (outlet covers, cabinet locks, and baby gate) for the baby who is now residing with mother in transitional housing. The mother demonstrates insight into unhealthy familial patterns and is motivated to break the cycles of drug abuse and poverty. The mother is looking forward to re-entry into the work force as she has an employment history and enjoys the independence and having the ability to provide for the needs of all 3 children. Fulfilling this request would ensure that the child has an additional outlet to process her trauma in an effort to support and stabilize her emotional wellbeing and for mother to be able to ensure that her home is safe for the baby. DCFS has assisted the family by providing assistance with clothes, food and hygiene product. The total price for the guitar, outlet covers, cabinet locks, and baby gate is 190.00.

A family friend took in a 8 yr. old little girl. The child is in desperate need of clothing. She has grown out of everything. The child needs shorts, shirts, pjs, panties, and training bras, all size 14. Shoes size 4. Caregiver has not received assistance yet and could really use the help.

Both parents are employed at this time and working to ensure all of their bills are paid so they can maintain their housing. They are currently having unsupervised visits with their three young children and preparing to increase family time to overnights within the next month. A mother is no longer able to take her medication since she cannot afford and no longer able to pay her bills and work. She is taking the steps to get her medication started back up for physical and mental state. Since she is not able to work due to having her disability she is not able to afford her rent. She has an eviction notice and needing to get her rent paid in the next 3 days. She currently has 3 children living in the house, an eight year old, 13 year old, and a 17 year old. She is a single mother and is never late with paying her rent. She could use all the help that she could get in order to prevent homelessness for her family.

A family with a child with special needs (seizure disorder and autism) is seeking assistance for a small portable air conditioner. Initially mom thought that the landlord got this fixed but as the days get hotter the a/c cannot keep up. The child’s seizures worsen with heat and the mom is about to undergo a surgery. Single mother (who Emmaus members have been walking alongside) escaping domestic violence from husband along with two kids under the age of 7 years. She is starting over from scratch as they left the house with nothing and has no extended family support. She would like to have a car which would provide transportation so she can get a job so that she can get into housing. We are hoping to provide $3,000 towards a vehicle.
