Story
Have you met the strongest eleven-year-old on the planet? This worker has!!! This young girl has overcome insurmountable odds after being shaken as a baby by a caregiver, resulting in her having shaken baby syndrome. In July of this year, some tests were run, and it was determined her kidneys are now failing. The child is currently in end-stage renal failure while she and the family wait for a kidney that may never come. The child’s father has been incarcerated most of the child’s life and is not involved. The child’s mother was incarcerated for a time and is now released; however, she has minimal involvement and has left the child in her grandparents’ care. The grandmother must drive back-and-forth out of town three hours one-way twice weekly so the child can receive dialysis. The drive back-and-forth puts quite a financial burden on the family. Gas cards to assist with fuel costs would be a great help. For the long car rides and waits during dialysis, the child likes to have something to keep her busy and loves to color. Coloring books with crayons would make her trips more fun. The child wears adult pullups, size S/M, and needs wipes. She has recently hit a growth spurt and likes to wear yoga pants, adult size medium/large, to her appointments so she can be comfortable. The child is outgrowing her shoes as well and is currently wearing a size 7W. Any assistance to help this little girl’s life become a tiny bit sweeter is greatly appreciated.
