Single mother of four kids is seeking help with moving belongings from a storage unit right outside of Buena Vista and to income based apartment in Lexington. This family had to be out of their home on May 31, 2025 and are currently living in a shelter until they could move into the income-based apartment. The apartment is now ready for them to move into but need help with heavy lifting and moving items from a storage unit to their apartment. Receiving this help would help a single mom and her children find peace as they are getting away from a situation and able to get out of the shelter and settled into their new home. This family needs help from people with trucks, trailers and able to do heavy lifting and possibly even putting bed frames back together. This family is looking for help ASAP and a Saturday is possible. The family is hopeful this could happen this Saturday, June 7th, but is open to other dates. I put this under a cleaning service as there was no other available option to fit this need, but this would not entail cleaning or putting away their belongings, only hauling/lifting heavy items to their apartment from the storage unit. The family is hoping for volunteers from local groups/churches to fill this need.

I am working with a family that has one child in foster care. The family is willing to establish a relationship with a church. The father is in need of weekly rides to his services. Note appointments are typically on Wednesday afternoons/evenings. The Department feels that if the father has regular transportation with a positive role model this could increase the ability of the family to get their child back.

I am writing as the case worker for a single mother who is currently facing an urgent and critical situation. This mother, who is working tirelessly to support her young children, has fallen significantly behind on her electric bill due to ongoing financial hardship. As of today, her balance stands at $800, and she has received notice that her electricity will be disconnected by the end of the day unless the full amount is paid.

She has exhausted all available local resources and emergency assistance options, and at this point, time is running out. Without power, the family will be without refrigeration, lighting, and the ability to maintain a safe living environment—something especially concerning with a young child in the home.

This mother has remained committed to doing everything she can to get back on her feet, including seeking employment support and budgeting guidance through our agency. However, this utility crisis has become an overwhelming burden that she cannot resolve without outside assistance.

I am working with a young couple and their toddler son. Mom and dad are good caretakers, attentive to their child's needs. Unfortunately, this family is lacking basic items from their apartment. This family is in need of a full mattress bedframe (as the parents' current mattress is on the ground), a couch (their living room seating consists of 1 arm chair), and a toddler bed for the child (he will soon be outgrowing his pack'n'play that he sleeps in now). The father recently was transporting a child from Charlottesville after a medical appointment and the vehicle over heated. The car was checked out by a mechanic and was found to be in need of three parts, a Duralast Radiator Coolant Hose, ($43.99), Duralast Water Pump ($86.99) and a Duralast Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Assembly ($21.99). The father also needs help with the cost of the repairs, approximately $300.00. The family is in need of transportation. The father has the only income in the home and there is no overtime work. The father is trying to keep the children together and from entering into foster care. The vehicle is a 2012 Dodge/Ram Truck Grand Caravan. The father is doing all that he can to provide care for the children. The father is in need of financial assistance for his rent for the month of June. The amount needed is $400.00.

This request is for a single mother who lives in the heart of Lynchburg with her toddler. She had family living with her until recently when they moved out of state, leaving her alone to care for her child and keep up income through cleaning houses. Her child currently does not have an actual bed for sleeping. When presented with the possibility of getting a bed for her child, her face lit up like a Christmas tree that there are people who may be able to bring her son a bed. Family discovered mold in the foundation of the house, impacting the health and wellness of those residing. Cost of mold remediation and installing drainage (sump pump) is far beyond the family's financial means. The costs are far greater than listed but every bit helps.

Mom lost her job in early November due to kids illnesses, she got a new job later in November but lost that job also due to kids illnesses. She has struggled to make car, electric, and rent payments since losing her job. She has been delivering with DoorDash to obtain income. She is overdue on her car payments for the month of April and May and she needs her car to continue to DoorDash until she obtains another job. The lender reached out to her because the payments were due on May 23rd. She has reached out to friends, family, and other agencies and has received some support for her other needs, but still cannot make the car payment. She is in need of $792.00 for her car payment. She is working with a Career Navigator at Virginia Career Works and plans to complete CNA training this summer so she can obtain self-sufficient employment, but she needs transportation to be able to accomplish this goal.

I am working with a family composed of a mom, dad, and four children ages 8, 6, 3, and a newborn. At a recent home visit, mom explained to me that she has much to do around the house but feels anxious leaving her baby to sleep where mom cannot see her. Mom expressed that she would really like a baby monitor so she can do her household duties while observing her baby, but since having the baby and being unable to work, the finances are tight. This is a small item, but it would bring comfort to mom and safety to the new baby! If a baby monitor is something you or your church could help provide, please reach out! The Lynchburg Department of Social Services is requesting rental assistance on behalf of a single mother of four children who recently relocated to a new apartment in an effort to provide a safer and more suitable living environment for her family. Her previous residence was inadequate and did not meet the basic needs of her children. This move was essential for the well-being and stability of the household. However, the financial burden of securing and maintaining this new apartment has created a significant challenge. Rental assistance would provide critical support in helping her sustain this improved living situation and continue working toward long-term stability for her family while she is looking for work

I have had a mother reach out in need of assistance with digging her family out of hole. Mom and Dad have 4 children. Mom works full time, however Dad has been unable to stay employed since he was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease. Dad has not had trouble getting jobs, however he has been let go by every employer he has had, due to his healthcare needs. They have applied for disability, and they are currently waiting to hear back from Social Security.

The family has gotten behind on all of their bills, mainly their mortgage and car payment.
The mortgage company has been very kind to work with them, and their mortgage is now due on July 1st.
They are 3 months behind on the car payment, which is $350/month.
